Redline Rendevous 2010 report & photolink

Just thought I'd give a bit of a rundown of this years event, my second at Mosport and the big track.

Hot and steamy both days with temps in the mid 30's and high humidity, making conditions for the Fusionator not the best. With a short ram intake + high ambient temps = gagging car by the afternoon. On the back straights, foot to the floor, I could barely get the car over 165km/h versus morning runs hitting 180km/h there.

No major bent sheet metal this year, though there was one gent who had a mild impact in his early 2000's Mustang after spinning out when the rains hit, his right rear quarter panel and surrounding hardware got munched nicely. A few spins too thanks to some Mustang machismo when the rains hit (I was already finished my third run of the day by then and getting soaked by my canopy chair )

I was still the slowest car there sadly, even getting passed by a 2.5L Nissan Altima on the back straight (in my defense it was the last run on the second day, car was gagging when I stomped on the gas pedal by then) but in the curves I was at least keeping up this year, which is a vast improvement over last year, where it was "Pass me and lose me"

Have I mentioned how much the stock Fusion tires suck at performance driving yet? Dear mother of god those things should be called the "Michelin Wolverines" because they howl like a wolverine getting its nuts hacked off with a rusty razor blade at their limits

By the second day I also had a direct appreciation for the money I spent on the Steeda lowering springs (which are by design and requirement much stiffer) and better brakes for the car. Unlike last year the car wasn't heeling over to one side as harshly, saving my left leg the nasty bruising it got last year and the brakes definitely helped when I was getting the car set up for turns

My instructor was great and in fact was exactly the type of instructor I needed, one focused on getting me to understand the control aspect of performance driving. He took me for a spin in his car during day 2, a stock 1st gen Miata on borrowed race tires. Not the fastest whip brought by the instructors, but damn if he couldn't make that thing act like it was on rails, sure the race tires helped but the car never felt like it was scrambling for grip.

High point of the event for me is when my instructor pulls me aside at lunch and I'm thinking "Oh s**t what have I been doing wrong?" because after the initial run the first day he had been so quiet during the later runs, I was afraid I had put him to sleep

Turns out that he actually wanted to congratulate me, saying that I was definitely at the point where at the next event I attend, I could likely solo on the track after getting the "all clear" from an instructor.

This is why I spend the money and do it right, proper instruction goes a long way towards building skills and confidence. It's not cheap, not by a long shot, but either do it right or don't do it at all IMO.

Here is a link to photos taken by the official event photographer, my car is obviously not that photogenic 'cause my car is only in a few pictures but yes I'm there

Problems

Fri, 09/03/2010 - 13:53
Hey guys

First off im having this issue with the front passenger side of my car. Only in the morning usually or after its been sitting for a while, when i first start to drive my car is making this weird noise of rubbing. But the wheel is not rubbing at all. I took it to the shop 3 mechanics looked at the car in the air and on the ground no one could find a problem.

With all that being said another mechanic told me he thinks it was the strut (installed svt kit last oct) so i talked with ford and got them to cover a new strut under warranty.

Wed I had the strut changed and bearing but still have this problem. Stabilizer links were fixed bout a year ago which is kinda the same sound im having but i also have this rubbing sound.

So has anybody ever had this issue??? i have 205/40/17 tires (general uhp)
in the morning its especially bad when i turn the sound gets louder. The mech's all said that other areas of the front suspension are tight.

Your feedback is appreciated

!@%$ING SPARCO HARNESS

Fri, 09/03/2010 - 12:25
need some more help boys. I bought a Sparco 4 point cam lock racing harness from JRP during there wicked summer sale, so i got it for a pretty good price. I took about a week, week and a half to get here and when i went to pick it up low and behold its a snap in style end clip and not a bolt in style. No biggie i figure, ill just bring it home and install it, only issue is the eye bolts fit the standard seat belt thread and not the seat base or our focus style rod thing that holds the bottom of our belts up front. I went back to JRP and they said it would cost more now to get the other style.....even IF they had it....which they dont. Iv been everywhere looking to metric M10x1.5 eye bolts and i was wondering if anyone here knows of were to get them, or of another way to mount this sucker in my car lol

JDM RHD Toyota ... but what

Mon, 08/30/2010 - 21:02
Saw this bad boy making its way through traffic. I had a tough time keeping up - it obviously had bags of torque, a really nice exhaust note and IMO it looks really good in an understated way ... this is one Toyota I would drive.

But I couldn't make out the name and my lousy 2mp phone-camera is virtually useless ... so anyone know what this is?

automotive style hits a new low

Mon, 08/30/2010 - 18:46
Dear canadian tire....please stop selling ignorant car owners, stick on vents....skull shaped/ spinner wheel covers ....and stickers that say type R..

soo my rant begins with driving home and seeing a gold 98ish windstar with at least 30 stick on vents!!! it looked like the van had warts!!....lol but this wasnt the first abomination ive seen on toronto's streets....grand ams with type R stickers.....chrysler 300's with buick style fender vents....all kinds of hondas and sunfires with stick on hood scoops....ive even seen another windstar with skull hub caps and a huge ricer muffler and to top it, not 1 but 5 type R stickers....what is wrong with people???? leave the car stock..and stop wasting your money and time on making it look tacky as hell....and fix the rust first!!! i work at a dealership so i see the worst of this all the time...theres this one customer who has a 2008 ford escape....this guy has every chrome accessory you can buy at canadian tire...the back bumper has reflectors all over it and to top it off this tacky escape has an emblem saying turbo 4x4 off road!!! and its front wheel drive!!! HA! another guys got a navigator...which has enough chrome to begin with but hes got everything painted gold....and across the side it says "300hp Turbo 4x4" ahahhahhahha.... the reason im writing this rant is because i saw that other post about "Carlashes" ....soon to be sold at Canadian tire...any day now...lol

Dont these people realize that everyone is laughing at them??? or are they that ignorant they think its "cool".... damn Canadian tire!!!
