Thinking of converting to manual. Anyone ever done this before? Any idea approx. how much will it cost?
I thought about it, from personal experience it was cheaper to sell my car and buy a manual.
easier and cheaper to find a manual car then to convert the atx to a manual.
If your just looking to be able to add power, lentech and level10 both have good transmission packages...for a cost :P

Just curious why do you want to change?
I knew a guy who spent some dough on converting his civic from auto to stick, heres what happened: 1.5 months of not having the car, it was in the shop getting slowly transformed, approx 4-5 G's on conversion in parts + labour costs + retrofitting the car to acoomidate manual trans related parts, engine still has same if not, very very slightly more power than it started with, and it STILL does NOT drive the same as a civic which came with Stick trany from the factory... IMHO, only worth it if you have access to a garage/shop and a lot of time to work on it and a wrecked car for donor parts
Here's what you need:

-Manual trans :P
-ECU from a manual trans focus
-Clutch cable
-Clutch/flywheel/pressure plate
-LSD, if you plan on getting more whp.
-SVT pedal kit (sheap way to get a clutch)
-Clutch pedal braket
-If I'm missing something, well sorry.
If you're going to pay a shop to do it, then it's definitely not worth it. If you were doing all the labor yourself and found a wrecked car to pull the tranny and all related parts out of, then maybe.

But still for the trouble you'd go through to have the car converted, you could sell your car and buy a manual of the same year/KM and come out ahead $ like hardcore was saying.

yeah, can't disagree...
forget that stupid idea
I think it's going to give you more head to convert it...just buy a manual car.
Get the shift improver from http://www.escortfocus.com... firm up your shifts, less transition time between gears. A fair number of US ATX drivers use them without grief. Not sure if I want one or if it's anywhere near a priority, but it's cool nonetheless.
