Hi Guy. Just wondering if anyone can help me find a place that sells used door latch assemblies. My Passenger door (ZX3) does not stay closed if the door is unlocked. The dealership wants $315 plus installation. WTF.

Please help.
try a junk yard...that's about all i can think about
There are a few "salvage" sites, like http://www.focussalvage.com. Locally, you can try http://www.car-part.com to find a local salvage yard.

But I'd personally be cautious about used door latches. If the car it was mounted in before was written off, the part could have been stressed in ways unknown to the naked eye.

This is a long shot but have you checked to see whether or not your car is subject to the recall regarding door latch assemblies? If it isn't then I would have to agree with what others have said and suggest you might have to eat the cost of a new assembly. Certain parts of the car you shouldn't skimp on. The parts that keep your passengers inside would be one of them

Go here and key in your VIN off your ownership. See if the door latch recall is listed. If it is, print it out and take it in to your dealer. They should have already done this, mind you.

Thanks. but the ZX3 did not fall into the recall. It's a crock of sh_t though. The latch, location and problem is the same at the 4 doors and evident on the 2-door models. But, since its a low volume car and fewer numbers exist they did not recall it. It sucks but what can i do.

If this is a safety item why is Ford not escalating this. How do i get an inquiry on this issue?

Thanks,

I'll help you out. I'll call FOC right now, put in an official complaint since I just had the work done myself @ 107 000Km's. I also have a ZX3 and didnt get any of this covered under this TSB or recall...whatever it is...

You call, and do the same...

Ford should hand out instructions on how to officially put a complaint in.
I have a zx3 and i had to replace my door latch as well. Mine was seized and kept blowing the fuse when trying to unlock the doors. I work at a ford dealership and i knew it wasnt covered so i bought one and it cost me $120. There pretty easy to install.
yet another reason why:

4 doors > 2 doors

as if we needed more.

RECALL!!

DONT Pay a cent...

Go to FORD and tell them its a recall and they have to fix it whether you are under warranty or not!

If you get a hassle or the run-around...let me know and I'll send you to a personal friend that will get your car fixed up under the recall bulletin!

I repeat...DO NOT PAY ANYONE MONEY!

ALL MODELS AND TRIM LEVELS 2000-2004 ARE INCLUDED!!! I WORK WITH FORD DIRECTLY......THEY WILL TRY TO TELL YOU NO TO AVOID DOING FREE WORK...

TRUST ME...PUT UP A BITCH ABOUT IT....$315 IS MIND-BLOWING...ANY MONEY FOR FAULTY s**t IS RIDICULOUS!

i DONT KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE BUT, i got Ford friends in guelph, Burlington, and st.catherines....I Can help you out if all else fails...

The reason I am so adament on this is because I know I'm right....and Ford is B.S.'ing people into thinkin the recall is not for their vehicle....

the recall is for rear doors... but it says you have to lube all of the doors... so that means they are covering thier asses

Actually Ford says they do the other doors as a 'courtesy service'....but yeah ..covering their asses seems to fit too!!

Until the ZX3's in the U.S. start having this many problems and NHTSA/DOT issues a safety recall notice, Transport Canada will only then follow suit. Canada has a tendency to follow whatever the US does for recalls.

If it's that much of a problem, I would go onto their website (http://www.nhtsa.gov) and lodge a complaint.

or you can try to lodge a foot in Ford's ass.... which ever floats your boat.
My door does teh same thing well sort of. My handle it so screwed up that the latch won't let go so I have to open the door from the inside. Sometimes when it's colder the door will not close too.

I've done it before on both sides of the border with varying results B)
But, seeing this being a possible safety issue, NHTSA or Transport Canada will have the bigger clout.
