Harper teamed up with the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Wait, that's not right.

Harper teamed up with the Guys Who Want to Sawzall Quebec from Canada to have a vote of non-confidence succeed. Now your holiday preparations and festivities can be interrupted by a member of Harper the CT Guy's delegation or any other member's flunkies knocking on your door.

Generic opener - "Can we count on your support in the upcoming election?"

Me - "What will you do for Canada?"

Liberals - "We'll keep balancing the books, lowering our debt as a nation, keep improving the economy, all at the expense of Ontarians. They have the biggest pocketbooks and there's more of them, dontchaknow."

Me - "Hmmm. Well, the economy is better, but this Ontario-carries-everyone BS has to stop. We'll see..."

or...

Tories - "Would you like to buy a missle defence?"

Me - "No. Who the hell has the range to hit somewhere like North Bay or even Toronto?"

Tories - "The US."

Me - "And this missle defence protects us from...."

Tories - "Everyone but the US."

Me - "Right. What else will you do for Canada?"

Tories - "We're sorry, can you repeat your question as regards the 51st state of the United States of America?"

Me - *slams door*

or...

NDP - "Would you like to join a union?"

Me - "What the hell does that have to do with an election?"

NDP - "If you don't join and elect the NDP, you're a scab worker. You don't want to know what we do to scabs..."

Me - "Are you threatening me?"

NDP - "No, we just wouldn't want anything unfortunate to happen to you. One day. On the way to work. When you just can't stop in time."

Me - *gives finger, slams door*

or...

Green Party - "Dude, this s**t is so good. I'm so totally wasted! Got any brownies?"

Me - *kicks in nuts, slams door*

Humour aside, discuss.

why would they need car insurance? where would these people drive to? I'd close canada's border to them coming in.
pfffff....I'll put my money on the drunk quebecers :P
As incredibly stupid as it sounds, I have a great deal of faith in our current MP (Liberal) and I truly believe if it wasn't for Martin this country would be the Great White Ethiopia.

I'll probably vote Liberal, as aghast as you all are at that (or just expecting it), because they really are the lesser of all evils... even after the dog and pony show that was the Gomery Inquiry.

If you really think the Tories will be any less corrupt... you might want to check for exhaust leaks in your car. They'll just find other, more creative ways to be corrupt after new rules are introduced.

Did you read about the corrupt Californian senator? Do you think he's the only one and that all the Democrats (opposing party) are all clean?

The only halfway viable party here is the Tories as a counterpart to the Liberals. The NDP aren't even on the radar. Not just "my radar", but everyone else's for that matter. And even their union backing has gone soft in recent times... so now they're a lame horse with 2 bad legs.
nothing will change.
a c ouple of seats will juggle and we'll be in EXACTLY the same bolat we're in now.

The green party wil benifit from this election the most.
The liberals should be punished for their two faced lying dealings. The problem is I don't see any liberals trying to change the party for the better, sticking with the company line doesn't make you any less corrupt even if you're not the one handing hte money to your friends personally.

So they should be punished, and know that you can't just get away with this crap.

And when the PC do the same, they should be punished just the same. The only thing I don't want is NDP in power.... but that's not becuase they're corrupt, they're just clueless.

Agree, however the libs are leading the polls right now with 37% of the votes.... are we THAT stupid?
How do you think I feel? I've got that a-hole Jack Layton as my MP! Now Olivia Cow is in on it too! Even if we manage to boot Jack in my riding she'd give up her seat for him. I'm forced to vote Liberal only because it counts as an anti-NDP vote and the Grits are the only other party with a chance in my riding. You just can't win.

I didn't think that your riding was so poor that people would vote in a socialist.

Thats another thing, the boundaries. My riding is Toronto-Danforth and my imediate area has no afinity or anything in common with Toronto Danforth, we should be lumped in with whatever riding Leaside is. The wants and needs of my hood are never represented by who gets elected.
ahhh..that makes sense.. everytime i take a walk down coxwell, that's all you see, jack layton signs... hop over to the beaches, and it suddenly changes.

Layton is clueless. Hey Andrew, what if they turned your neighbourhood into a community farm... would that alleviate the concerns of the bigwigs? :D

Layton would be King of the Manure Pile. Olivia would be the s**t Sprinkler Princess Consort.

Sorry guys, but those responsible for the corruptness have been sacked. And those responsible for the sacking the corrupt have also been sacked.

Bringing in the Tories right now would be a death knell for the economy. All this wonderful prosperity we're enjoying? GONE. Tax cuts will be replaced with tax increases. The only good thing that may result from the Tories is a long, hard look at immigration and locking it down (hopefully).
Like it is everytime we goto the polls.

Pick your poison fellas.
^^ Completely agreed.
Unfortunately the tories are the only ones that come up with a decent long term plan of turning the country around...

look at public transit, highways, healthcare, and tell me that our current deficit is enough to fix all of it. Tax cuts make people feel better, but they fix nothing. If the government got their act together, they could realistically pull everything around in a few years time. It's like me saying I'll pay off my credit cards by lowering my monthly payments... it doesn't work!

Funny thing, I found a pamphlet under my door handle today from the woman who tradiitionally runs as PC in my riding. I've never voted for her before because she was never as visible in the community as the liberal guy... but now, maybe, i would just vote for her...

So I'm reading through her pamphlet about all the people who are giving quotes of support for her, and one dude is a liberal MPP..

WTF??

So I turn the pamphlet back over.. damnit, she's a liberal now...

I think that if you want to improve political citizenship, we need to punish the whole party.... it's like if my boss was to do something wrong, it would be my moral obligation to raise my concerns... nobody in the liberal party did that, and they should learn that everybody in the party is responsible for the party's actions.

Sure, I'll be throwing my vote away, but this is the 1st time I've felt compelled to vote.
I can see where you're going with this Steve, and I applaud you for sticking to your guns.

However, plan or not (remember the Liberal's Red Book?), I don't see the Tories really maximizing the state of our economy. It would be foolhardy to deny that the Liberals have pulled our country's fat out of the fire.

I seriously hope that if the Tories achieve a majority government in January that they just don't start whoring us out to the Americans.

For some reason, I looked up Soverign Nation in the dictionary and the caption was "Anything but Harper..."

yeah, that's the part that really stinks... the PC's would sell us out to the 'mericans.

I can only hope that we end up with another minority government. I'd prever a PC led minority government, because it would achieve the lessons I would prefer, and it doesn't give absolute power to the PC.

it's one of those moments where I wish I could organize the votes amongst people to obtain the end goal. We're so screwed....

vote bloc

I wonder who would benefit most from a low turnout; Jan. 23 historically is the coldest day of the year in Canada. Most imprtant, even more important than who you vote for, is to get out and vote, despite the weather.
