Bought a used focus wagon 2003 45000k.
everything seems fine except for this loud howl from the rear at 90k after that it disappears, sounds like blowing into a bottle, wondering if its exhaust? anyone had this?
rara <_<
Welcome.

Generally, the Focus exhaust is dead quiet. I'm assuming there's still bumper-to-bumper warranty here. Take a Ford Tech out for a jaunt and see what they have to say.

Initially I'd say rear wheel bearing, improper tire wear, warped tire / rim. Could also be a worn suspension piece causing the rear to be out of spec.

Do you notice any shaking at all or pulling in the car when driving? Braking or accelerating? Does it have an "easier" time turning in one direction over another?
Rear bearings are shot.

Welcome to the club.

They have a T.S.B. out for it. It;s a VERY common problem with these cars.
Your best bet is to get a Ford tech to look at it, but coming here for some info is a great idea.

The above posts could be the problem, but then again....it may not be, this is why it is best to bring a frod tech along for a ride and show him the symptoms.

I just had the front bearing done on my focus but it didnt sound like that. My "thumping" noise was whenever the car was rolling wether at 1km/hr or at 100km/hr. The sound just got louder as the speed increased.

This would be my guess too ... noises from the rear tend to be a bit amplified in the wagon vs. a sedan ... could be tire(s) too.

Welcome ... and are you by any chance admin over on CEG?
It might be that you are not used to driving a vehicle with a roof rack. There is wind noise at higher speeds.
