Mind you mine was a little different, the Judge threw it out out with out me showing any documentation! See the cop said he could hear my car ten block's away! It was loud at the time ( blown resonator) but it wasn't that loud! Anyway when the Judge heard that he said exactly what I had said," if you were ten block's away, then how do you know you got the right car?"Â Exactly! is what I said and got fined $50.00 for speaking out of turn!LMAO
For you though, just bring any document's you have that say's it's legal, and if you want you can get it tested for decibel out-put. You could also explain what the problem was. No matter what though it is a huge waste of time!
Odd's are they will just throw it out. All of the ticket's I've received in the last couple of month's were. But then again my car is well known to the Peel Police! They either love me or hate me because they sure pull me over allot! <_<

As long as the article is legal for sale in Canada and installed as directed, that ticket is as worthless as a three dollar bill. Did you install the device yourself?
The fact that the cop wrote down the wrong model year may not be enough to get the ticket voided if the remainder of the information on the ticket is accurate (substantial compliance)

no it is not, even if the cop mispells your name car or anything the ticket still stands the whole my name is wrong the ticket is invalid is just an urban myth. Here are some clips...
2. There are only a few areas on a traffic ticket where a mistake will result in the case being dismissed or quashed and a misspelled name or wrong plate number are not any of them.
8. A '24 or 48 hour report' may be given solely at the discretion of the issuing officer. The offence is committed when the documents are not produced on demand or the vehicle is being operated on a highway with defective equipment.
11. There is no requirement for the Officer to show you the radar. In most cases it is better not to see the radar reading in case you are asked to repeat it in court.
just a few points....

Exaust noise is like tint .. its more disgression then anything...
Im pretty sure the legal limit though is infact listed somewhere because ive seen it before, but who tests it and when it is tested its rarely done properly.
Also the only real ticket screw up (unless its large) that will get you a boot out of court is the lack of signature.
Either way ... youll get off. Theres no proof on his part at all it was 'louder then legal'.

A misspelt licence plate WILL GET YOU OFF!!!!!!!!! (for a parking ticket anyway)
my old topaz was 168 HAH and the fuktard cop put 68 HAH.
called up city hall and they said the ticket is invaled and i didn't have to pay it
 if the cop said he "didn't have time" to check (which would require a whole 20 seconds, i would have flipped out and lost it("The Champ" style).
I says pardon? as i give him my patented solarplex flury, you rat fcker, you lizard milker you scum of the earth, an uppur cut to the jaw, you nincompop, head fake him with the Jane Fonda workout cassette tape and the meat head goes for it, I pummel him, i pummel him with devestating left crosses, and elbows to the head, you piece of sh!t, you cow humper, you dog rectal sniffer. Hows that for "my exaust it too loud"

Friggin cops think they know stuff... I don't get how your exhaust can be illegal...you bought it and payed tax on it, you had it installed at and by the manufacturer, a legally operated business that also pays taxes and would have had to get some sort of legal permission to manufacture their exhaust after R&D, you know, get approval or fall within some kind of guidelines before being allowed to make them. Also, you're right about the not checking thingy...YES, we have both a muffler, and a resonator, and if you are like me, have the stock manifold, flex pipe and cat on the vehicle before the exhaust system, thereby making it a catalyst equipped vehicle...
In terms of being loud...whatever.com...lol Yeah, it's obviously not stock sounding in a confined area (like a downtown street at 10pm), but I've had some of Brantfords Finest Rolling right beside me all along Colbourne street downtown at night, and they didn't even look over at my car, even when I purposely held the car at 3000 rpm in 3rd all the way through downtown...
Sounds like the po-po's are real whiners, not winners down there in the GTA...
Long Story short, I think you can get out of the ticket...

that's an easy ticket to get off, I have recieved 3 of them within the last 4 years in my Mustang which I assume is much louder then your focus and best thing is too take it to court. #1 the cop may not show up #2 if he does you should proceed rather than put it off cuz it's a discretionary ticket and what is too loud to one cop isn't too loud to another, that's how I got off on all of mine, if he takes the stand it's as simple as asking him what's too loud, regardless of what he says it'll be his opinion and not the law. worked for me it'd probably work for you.

I'm driving home up brittania. at every red light. the car almost stalls and the battery light comes on....
So.... i decide. i'm going to nurse the car home... i'm driving down brittania doing the speed limit (80km/h) in third gear... so the car is a bit loud. I'm trying to keep the rev's up because it seems that the regulator is shot in the alternator. because the lights dont dim unless the car is idling.
so... some jackass cop pulls me over. i pull off to the side. He comes up to the car and says "hey, thats a bit loud dont you think" he gets a flashlight and starts looking in the exhaust tip " hey i dont see a muffler, why doesnt your car have a muffler" "why would you remove your cars muffler" "where's the catalyst"... etc. fack.. the mbrp isnt that loud. i wonder if that jackass realizes its not a dam honda. i dont have a huge ass can sticking out the back of my car.
so he proceeds to tell me that my exhaust is illegal because i dont have bafflers in the exhaust tip. and people have been complaining about loud exhausts. so whatever. so he goes back to his car, writes up a ticket... comes back to the car. i tell him. hey, i checked with the police allready and they said the exhaust is legal... blah blah blah and i can show him the exhaust. he said he didnt have time for that. told me to fight the ticket. then he drove off and pulled someone over like 500m down the road..
dam jackass...
i was || this close.... to telling the cop off right there. fuckers are out giving me s**t because my exhaust is loud. when they should be looking for the dam jackass who killed the kid from my HS. on wednesday...
Soo... i now have a ticket for "unnessecary noise" any ideas how i should go fight it. etc.
Pissed me right offf..

BS! I had a speeding ticket and the only problem was the cop missed 1 letter in my last name and the ticket got quashed, But this was in MB not ON, so maybe the law is different in your tight ass province.

Exactly, Ontario courts tend to come down on the side of "the law" even when you can prove the law is an ass <_<
That's why you're better off trying to get the cop in court to explain how he came to conclusion that your car was too loud. Unless the cop can prove that his hearing has been calibrated, he's gonna look pretty bad to the judge for basing a ticket on "opinion"

yeah you can use some googlized knowledge saying that the cop perhaps didn't take into account sound bouncing off buildings and reverberating. Also who is to say he knew the car was yours? he wasn't behind you or beside you was he? I can't remember. Ask the cop if the noise he heard was comparable to a Harley? a V8 with a blown motor? or a catless 4 banger? even record your car and a harley and something else and ask him to tell the JP which one is yours.
I would be such a hardon making that cop regret pulling you over.
