At first, i was just like...blah, another cavalier...then just now, i checked the gm site and found this is going to be a pretty big competition to the Focus...Well, i brought the focus over the corolla, civic, accord, camry, cavalier, protege5 because it offered Traction Control which back then was the only car in the class with this, found it very useful the other snow day when some idiot with his camry started tailgating me in a side street, made me do a turn at 40km barely even sliding  .... looking back at the mirror, i see the idiot with his camry sideways on the main street...dumbass.

Anyway, I just checked out this Cobolt LT which is the highest version of the 4 dr cobolt, it comes with traction control ! and basically everything else is included...but it also has 7 speakers with sub, the old 2.2L, and leather seats...all for $22,495...thats a very hard to beat price. And this Cobolt has everything the Focus should have too! A Sedan, Coupe, and a SS version...oh Ford...why'd you get rid of SVT?

What do you guys think?
Its hard to say. Its just another Jbody in my eyes. It may in fact change my opinion but who knows. As for now the only domestic cars I will ever drive are a Focus, Escort, 300C and an SRT-4.

Im still curious what if Ford really has any plans for the Focus. I cant beleive how stupid they are to. The market is here and its staying. They could of easily taken advantage of the situation many times and made a better name for them selves.

Somethings i noticed about the Focus though is that Ford really tried to make it a different car than the others...i mean, when i was looking for new car, no one else had traction control unless you get to the olds intrigue class...thats the thing that attracted me most. But then i think because they spend the money to put these little things into the Focus, they got nothing left to spend on the other stuff...stuff like the really really hard plastic interior that reflects the sun and brakes that hardly stop the car..

The Cobalt SS could be a real good car...its $24,000 sticker is cheaper than the SVT and SRT-4's $27,000...really competitive there with that price...even imports like mazdaspeed have the 27k sticker... lol and the PT's turbo has a 31k sticker...which makes this Cobalt seems like a good buy. eeee Ford better start thinking or else they are going to lose the teenager market

This market is not just for teens...this is the hottest market aside from trucks in Canada and is also a growing segment in the U.S. with the rising price of gas ;) . Ford seems to be resting while everyone else is moving ahead. It seems ford's excuse is that it is focusing on other platforms such as the new mustang...well I've got to ask why do other car companies have no problems bringinng out more than one new platform at a time while ford keeps giving us the same excuse.
Because, FORD is broke. They aren't declaring bankrupcy, just saving money right now for new investments in new plants. New plants means new products.
The Cobalt is a not half bad looking car based on the delta platform the one that I'm keeping my eye though is the Cobalt's corporate cousin The Pontiac Pursuit.

Actually, I've had a 2005 Durango SLT with a 4.7L Magnum V8 for 2 days now, got it on a rental to drive to our Sudbury office (Papa message me! Where you at! I'll be back tomorrow or Monday!). National dropped it off with 40 KMs on it, and I'm up to ~400 so far. If it wasn't so farkin HUGE, I'd consider buying one.

And the gas mileage... OMG SADDDDDD! Something stupid like 19-23 MPG on the highway...

But it hauls ass... MAN does it haul ass. Corners like s**t, and stopping... well, it feels like an 8 year-old with MJ pushing it from the rear... it does NOT like fast stops. In the snow, tho... it's a beast. I went through an unplowed lot in AWD mode with traction control enabled... it just walked.

To stay OT, I saw a Cobalt today... I was summarily unimpressed.

isnt there a cobalt coming out that is like 200 hp?? or is that the SS version?
The cobat (pursuit) doesnt look half bad... im pretty sure the SS comes with the ION redline s/c engine.
its still a GM. straight line preformance only.

I saw a Cobalt (4-door) on a transport trailer a couple weeks ago, it looked very Chevy like in person. Booo urns.
Traction control on GM suck big time. I drove my brother's gf Grandam with TC and it didn'y help a bit.
The Cobolt may look nice but how does it drive. Someone should take one for a test drive.
I read about someone driving one in some other country and it rode a tiny bit better then a cavalier but the bump control blows ass. I seen one today to, very unimpressed it's like looking at a cavalier. What's with gm today and these totally huge ass headlight assemblies, jesus it's like a damn light in an arena, huge as dam. The 24000 sticker on the cobalt ss is like the emerican price. It's 22000 some american so count on it being priced along with the srt 4 people.
The pursuit looks like a grand am had its way with a mazda3. poor mazda.
Pontiac...*shudder*...I just can't get around that trademark front grill...it's so f***in' ugly.
Still a GMC/Chevy/Pontiac the thing could run 10 second stock and I still wouldnt give it any respect.. How ever I ddi say that about the Neon/SRT4 and it has grown onto me. I dunno thow. The handling on Jbody's I find just umm ya...... Then again Im so used to the Focus. Im also the guy who found the focus a nicer dribe then an Sl500 LOL Maybe im just on crack..

Agreed.

And spyder... You dont think the focus brakes are adequate enough for the stock car? Thats somewhat odd... I never hear people mentioning that.
I'm rather happy with the stock brake package myself, Dan. I've hauled down from a cruise speed of "stupid" more than once. :D
For those that are comparing the Cobalt to the Cavalier they are totally different platforms the old J-Bodies are gone and no longer in production. The Cobalt/Pursuit are based on the Delta platform that was developed in Europe by Opel the 1st car to be built on the Delta platform I believe was the 2002 Opel Astra and then the 2003 Saturn Ion. I know it's still a GM and they probably did cut corners to get the car so cheap in NA but I'll wait to drive a Pursuit and then I'll pass judgement, if it's anything like the old Opel Astra that I drove in Portugal back in '98 then it should be a fun machine to drive. :)
