Transport Canada issues latest recalls

Ottawa, Ontario – Transport Canada has issued its latest recalls, which may affect some Jeep, Mazda, General Motors, Dodge, Toyota, Kia, Suzuki, Ferrari, Nissan and Volkswagen vehicles, and some Orbit Baby child seats.

2007 – 2010 Jeep Commander
Vehicles affected: 730
On certain vehicles not equipped with a factory sunroof, the supplemental side airbag inflatable curtain may not position properly during inflation. The curtain airbag will still deploy in a timely manner and meet and exceed applicable safety standards. Dealers will install a bracket and foam block behind the B-pillar upper trim cover to improve the curtain airbag positioning. NOTE: This action is not being conducted under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

2007-2009 Mazda3
2007-2009 Mazda5
Vehicles affected: 91,000
On certain vehicles equipped with electro-hydraulic power-assist steering, rust had formed inside the high-pressure pipe on the power steering system during manufacturing, due to improper processing. Rust particles may detach from the pipe walls and enter the motorized power steering pump, causing damage to the pump bearings. As a result, gear lubrication may be reduced, leading to an increased load on the motor. Should this happen, there is the potential for the power steering system to enter the fail-safe mode to prevent overheating, which could lead to a loss of power assist and increased steering effort. Dealers will repair the affected vehicles.

2009-2010 Buick Enclave
2009-2010 Chevrolet Traverse
2009-2010 GMC Acadia
2009 Saturn Outlook
Vehicles affected: 16,752
On certain vehicles, the second-row seat side trim shield may restrict the upward rotation of the seatbelt buckle when the seat back is returned to a seating position after being folded flat. If the buckle contacts the seat frame, additional effort is required to return the seat to a seating position, and if sufficient force is applied, the buckle cover could be pushed down the strap, exposing and partially depressing the red release button. As a result, the release button will not travel as designed when depressed and will appear to be jammed. The buckle cover may have visible damage which may only be cosmetic, but in some cases, the buckle may not latch or unlatch, or may appear to latch when it is not fully engaged. Dealers will modify the second-row seat side trim shields, inspect the belt buckle, and replace it if necessary.

2009-2010 Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500
Vehicles affected: 6
On certain vehicles, the spring plate which is mounted at the oil filler neck and fixes it at the cylinder head cover may crack and result in an engine oil leak in the engine compartment. Dealers will replace the affected oil filler necks.

2010 Orbit Baby Black, Mocha or Ruby
Units affected: 240
On certain car seats, the adhesive used by the manufacturer to hold the National Safety Mark label permanently in place as required by the motor vehicle safety regulation was not sufficient. The product is compliant and there is no identified safety risk. The manufacturer will provide a new label and instructions for application.

2005-2008 Pontiac Vibe
Vehicles affected: 37,412
On certain vehicles with a 1.8-litre engine and two-wheel drive transmission, the engine control module may have been improperly manufactured. There is a possibility that a crack may develop at certain solder points or on the circuit board. In most cases, if a crack occurs, the engine warning lamp could illuminate, harsh shifting could result, or the engine may not start. In limited instances, the engine could stop while the vehicle is being driven. Dealers will repair the affected vehicles.

2005-2008 Toyota Corolla
2005-2008 Toyota Matrix
Vehicles affected: 200,357

Certain vehicles may have a bilingual tire and vehicle loading label which depicts an incorrect tire size. This has no effect on vehicle safety. Owners will receive a letter with a revised label and instructions for installation, and the option of having the dealer install the label if desired.

2010 Ferrari 458 Italia

On certain vehicles, engine heat could cause possible deformation of the rear wheelhouses and heat shield assemblies. This could result in the assembly becoming close to the exhaust system, causing the bonding adhesive in the assembly to overheat, produce smoke, or in rare circumstances, catch fire. Dealers will install new heat shields.

2008-2010 Nissan Pathfinder
2008-2010 Nissan Xterra
