Full Version: The White Screen O' Death

Well, contrary to the popular perception... my iPod Nano suffered the white screen o' death this morning.

Go to listen to some music, and the screen goes white, the light stays on, and while the current song finishes playing, it stopped playing after that one song, and is totally unresponsive.

Since iPods don't have a reset button, I get the sneaking suspicion that I have to wait for the battery to die out on it... I guess it's time to hit up the web and see if there's some way to fix this no-so-user-friendly glitch...

Can't remember the last time I had a sony or M$ device crash on me to the point where I had to wait at least 24 hours to bring it back to life. A real inconvenience when I need to get some music in my head to block out the girls chatting about the news over at the next table.

and they're not even attractive

oh, and </rant>
And the worst part is that you can't even pull the battery quickly or easily. :(

That's why I like my phone as a MP3 player - 8GB of space and Sony's wicked Walkman interface and playlisting.

s***ty deal, Steve.
Mine does that every now and then. There is a reset function on mine (I think it's a gen older then yours) and a I think it works on yours too.

From apple:
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

It's always worked for me!!

I have used that trick many times on my 20GB Photo, but I as of yet haven't had any trouble with my iTouch. (touches wood and crosses fingers)
That's the one issue with minmalist designs like Apple, if something goes bad, it takes diving for the manual / website / friends to figure out what to do.

I have found the personel at the Apple store to have a wealth of knowledge. If you phone Apple support expect to be thrown into the pits of hell. Those people are pure evil.
Gentlemen, two of my kids work for Apple, sort of........in Peterborough, as techies? in a call centre.I will contact them to see if they can help with your Apple Issues

already tried that a few times... I just get the WSoD with two beeps when it comes back.

As a PC user, it sounds like a hardware failure... why it still played music during the hardware failure is beyond me, but I'll let the battery run out and see where that gets me
It could have just been a bad file. My g/fs did that so I re-formated it....
I hate the fact that I can't load porn on to my iTouch. Someone needs to create a fix for that.

So sorry to steve-0.
I've never had an issue with mine. *knock on wood*

At least they're willing to replace it.
