aaaaaaanyone knwo of anything going on?
Well, up here in Ottawa, the local club (http://www.mco.org) runs a variety of Winter events, all at the site of the Capital City Speedway, off Hwy 7 west of the city.

Here is the winter solo series:

Here is the first of their short series of Ice Races:

They also conduct several winter driving schools that have an excellent reputation, whether it is for your GF, your teenage-son-hot-shoe, or for a budding GP-Star.

By the way, MCO welcomes spectators, and especially welcomes volunteers, if you have ever wanted to get in to the inside of a race event.

All for now,

Bob

Thanks Bob, you said "up here in ottawa"

I take it you're... 'up here' as well? Do you ever attend any of those events?

Hi Mystake,

The schedule is here:
http://www.mco.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12339

Looks like the first event is Jan. 8 (might be a night event?). They talk about a system called Karelo for registration. Not sure what that is, but if you poke around their website and forums you may figure it out.

I have not gone out to these events for a couple of years, but I am interested to take a look this year. I don't think I will be competing. I certainly want to see one of the Ice Races as well as the Snowcross.

Keep me in the loop about your plans.

Bob

Thanks for the links Bob,

January 8th isn't too far away and I think I might go out just to see what it's like... maybe i'll run the focus with its snows on hahaha... actually do they leave the track covered in snow or does it get cleared?

Anyway I'll let you know what I end up doing, for now I've registered on their forums and will start getting as much information as I can and as quickly as possible. edit: I forgot, I have to prep the car too. BB subwoofers for a while, lol.

If anyone else up here is interested, let me know. Get a little group going.
I'm going to head out to this tomorrow and scope it all out, see what its like.

I'll try to take pics if theres any worth taking.

Hi, I just checked the MCO forums, and I see that the first SnowCross event for tonight is CANCELLED.

They are spending the afternoon doing tech inspection of cars for the Ice Race series, so there will be people on site from 11am-3pm, but no action on the track.

All for now,

Bob
Bah!! It snowed a whole bunch over the past couple days too!!!

In two weeks at the International Centre...

Yeah, I think they had to make a decision late in the week, and it was not clear if the snow volumes would warrant committing to the plowing etc.

The good news is that the amount of snow we have had (and will have shortly) will allow them to do the track really well, with soft snowbanks (having lost a front pan on a Mazda to one of the frozen varieties during a driving school several years ago, I can appreciate the value of soft banks).

Looks like we will have a double-header weekend Jan. 29-30, with an Ice Race on the Saturday and a Snow-X on the Sunday. I plan to be there.

All for now,

Bob
I'll see u there, then!
also cancelled Sad

Yeah, they seem to be struggling this year. It seems to be the kind of thing where, if you get the right breaks, it all works, but otherwise, you can try to force Mother Nature (trucking snow, watering). That can cost you a lot of money, and still might fail.

Very sad, because I know they had a lot of people ready to run. They also have had to reschedule a bunch of their driving schools (both public and private sessions).

I guess we will just keep an eye on their Forum.

Bob
Yep, maaaaaaybe our luck will change this weekend. I've volunteered to help with track prep on the Saturday.

I was out at the track last Thursday, to flag for one of their Winter Driving Schools. The track is now pretty good, and I know they have a program to maintain/improve it.

I hope the next Snow-X event will go ahead. They have cut the Ice Race schedule back to just one event, in Late February IIRC.

Bob

my focus will unfortunately not be participating Sad

but ill still come out to a snowcross to see what its all about
