Full Version: So, where is your Focus rusting?

I just discovered that my 2003 SE Wagon is developing rust at the bottom edge of the front passenger door, as well as bubbles in the passenger-side rocker panel. This surprises me since it has been oil sprayed (although not every year).

I thought it might be interesting to see where rust is appearing on other people's cars.

If you want to play, please indicate the year of your car, and rust-protection treatment, if any.

The only problem area I have on my 05 is from meBlush
I put 4 blue recycling boxes full of records in my hatch while running a 2.2" drop and 215-45-17's and rubbed the inside of my rear quarters.

After a while of it getting moister and dirt in there, I went to check my tread dept and while pulling my hand out I peeled a big hunk of paint off so it's now noticeable from the outside of the car. Angry

To add insult to injury, I got a quote for around $400 just to blow in my rear quarter panel.
For me the rear hatch at the bottom has a bit of rust, also EVERY focus I looked at (even 05's) had rusted quarterpanels. $10 for some mudflaps would have stopped that why couldn't ford have just put mudflaps on their cars.

I'm not sure why, but when reading this I put a pause just before "quarter panel" and then promptly snorted ginger ale out my nose.
bottom of my drivers door has a hole, the seem has split, which is now rubbing on the door sill. hood edge at the grille, a random bubbling spot the size of a toonie on the roof. actually yesterday i had it up on the hoist and the rear sub frame is rusted beyond repair!... (2000 black zx3)

the yellow 2000 zx3 is rusting the same way....drivers door and sill same spots, but right behind the rear wheels where the bumper meets the body is rusting out on both sides.......Dodgy....and the power steering pump is rusted....lol

I was thinkin the same thing, I've been looking for a pair of euro rear mud guards and fronts for my car the past little while.

LOL! Get your mind out of the gutter KenCool

I've seen a lot of Focus' come into work with rusty front fenders behind the wheels and really rusty rockers.
We put tires on a yellow 00-04 hatch for a crappy little dealership that had no rockers at all, I could put my hand inside them lol.
no rust here on my 07, sprayed since 07.
Rear hatch at both ends of the trim, really badly. Front left rocker panel under the skirt. Thats about it. Not bad for 9 years and 210,000kms.
Currently, just around the center brake light on the trunk, and a little at the bottom of the rear driver's door, I think. It's actually pretty good for having over 260,000 kms on it!
rocker panels.
i'm losing paint everywhere,

rear passenger door has begun to flake off, rear passenger rocker panel is flaking away(its more the rear quarter panel but isn't it all one big piece anyway?), opposite end of it at the front as well (maybe from rocks being kicked up?), one of my fenders has a crack in the paint so that's just waiting to finally rust off, both ends of my hatch trim, i haven't even looked at the drivers side of my car and thinking about all that's wrong with the body... I don't wanna lol

i hope it doesn't get too much worse by the time summer rolls around... i wasn't planning on a repaint for at least another couple years

edit: imo, not good for a car with <140k on it and is just barely 8 years old
my 2000 rusted everywhere hood, trunk, rockers, doors I fixed all the rust every year until finally got fed up and stripped it down and painted it with flat black trimclad..lol never had an issue after that
my car had 0 rust when sold, but I also never drove it in the winter.
Rust around the fender edges, tiny bubble on the roof and the hood is a minefield.

The body's getting fixed this spring and the hood's either getting fixed or replaced. After that, it may not see snow either.
I would just rust proof it.
