So I'm in the market for a truck. This thing will be a work horse that I would dress it up with some wheels and maybe an intake.
When I say work horse, I mean Tire Service Vehicle. Roughly about 2000lbs of tools will always sit on it and then you can add about another 1000lbs of tires (8-10 tires) that needs to fit in the bed of it too.

My Father scored a great deal on a 2010 Tundra that never sold with 163km and got it for pretty much cost price with full warranty as if it was a 2012. The Tundra is a single cab and a 8 foot box. It has a 5.7L gas sucker but it has more than enough balls to haul what I need to hauled.

Now I really like the 2012 Tundra in white with the double cab. But fuel is a problem. She is a beast at the pumps with the rear end being 4:30 gears!!

So I was also looking at the F-150. Only thing is though the F-150 is butt ugly and pricy for nothing. If you want the 8 foot box you have to get the heavy duty axles which give you the hardest bolt pattern of a 7 Bolt hub. Only one wheel I know is made for it from Ford and it sucks. Any aftermarket wheels found and you are looking at 400+ per wheel. Not worth it...

So John ... how many km a year will this truck be doing and how much will each truck cost ... if you want, I can do up a quick spreadsheet and we can plug in some cost factors and figure out the relative expense factor for each.

The truck will probably be doing around 5000-10000km a year. I am concerned about the fuel usage but it's not really a killing decision on the truck.

I'm more looking for looks, comfort, power, size for cargo and durability. Mainly just looking for input and what other people would choose if it were up to them.

As of right now dodge is putting out the best trucks. I know everyone here will say they have s**t trannys. But between the ford and the toyota , the toyota has way better build quality. As for the gas issue , a bully dog programer and intake could help out alot or maybe just intake an exhaust.

I love my F150. Wish I could have waited and got an Ecoboost. The guys on the F150 rave about the Ecoboost.

The Toyota is not a full frame truck. good luck on a job site or carrying anything heavy in it. Toyota. Pfft.

every where else in the world seems to do find with toyotas on the job site.

Good thoughts so far. I see this is a 50/50 race.
Dodge is a big no for me as is Chevy. They just lack in the balls and durability department.

As for the Toyota not handling the loads. I've been in my fathers and it has had a full load of tires and a 10X20 trailer with more tires on her and it never even hinted at losing power or comfort.
My father says all the time it will pass anything on the road but a gas station and my mother laughs and says every time you launch it from the light, oops there goes $15 lol.

The ford to me is really only tempting by the Economy engine. It would have better fuel usage and the power would be roughly the same. Though its soo ugly and not worth the price either. I've had an 04 as a service truck before and the dam thing would eat brakes, get 500km to a 135 litter tank and the interior was not built for service work. The tranny would get tired in heat and the suspension was way to soft with a load on it.

Dodge and chevy are way more reliable then the ford , we have had both trucks on the farm the only problem with the chevy was the turbo went bad. The dodge has never had any issues ,and can pretty much haul anything , has alot more balls then an f150 , if you were to hook them up for tug of war the dodge would prolly break the ford lol.

I'd go F-150, personally. Do you want 4WD or 2WD?

Also, why not go a few years' worth of used? Save lots of coin and get something that will still likely outlast your needs. Also, at least with Ford, if the factory bumper-to-bumper hasn't expired you can extend it out to 7 years / 150,000 for a multitude of different types of coverage. The Escape just rolled over 112k and it's warrantied to 150k. On everything, and I mean everything. Whatever floats your boat. I got a wicked deal on my Ram, and it's treating me well so far. This week it's a 5.9L wheelbarrow, hauling excess soil from Oscar's place to mine.

And your not considering a 250 or 2500??

Go test drive the ecoboost and if it doesn't put a smile on your face I will escort you to the women's section of the car club scene along with NOS.

I forgot to mention that its over 300,000 kms , and has been used like a truck everyday of it life. All the eco boost is good for is getting groceries.

You must be a fan of Nascar because the fumes have gone to your head. The ecoboost has the fuel efficiency everyone is looking for and the HP of every man's dreams. It's the best of both worlds. Go drive one and leave the dealer with a tire patch.

The eco boost has potential , but it doesnt breath well enough imo. To meet its full potential you have to put a larger exhaust and a better intake. Plus if your buying a truck I honestly think mpg isnt your first concern.

I'm not sure what info you've been getting, but it seems pretty clear to me that the eco-boost handily outperforms the Ram 5.7L Hemi and the Chevy 5.3 L in the two most important areas any truck owner, at least a business truck owner, would want - torque over a wide range of RPM and fuel economy.
