So i've seen some ads of the new focus 2009 sedan/coupe. Is it really true u get 50 mpg hwy on this car??? it's not even a hybrid too. 38 city / 50 hwy seems waaaay over exaggerated for the focus.

Usually the focus is rated at around 28 city / 34 hwy (00-07 models).
50 highway would be intense...my auto gets like 35ish cruising at 100.

I don't know what the standards are for there test? No cross wind, 90 kph, a light down hill grade???? The best I have ever gotten is 39 MPG and that was mostly highway driving at around 100-105kph. I noticed on the 09 with the optional 17 inch rims they drop 3mpg because of the wider tire (215/45/17 vs 195/60/15)
if its a canadian ad, its 50mpg using imperial gallons, not US gallons. dont confuse the two.

1USG = 3.78L
1 UKG = 4.5L

50mpg (UK) = 41.6 mpg (US)
i'm not sure if it's canadian or american but its on ebay as an ad and i saw it in the paper too. It also said, "From Saskatoon to Winnipeg in one tank" or "Halifax to Cape Breton" or "Vancouver to Kelowna" or "Calgary to Edmonton" .....850 KM in one tank.

That is sounds really impressive - comparable to the Volkswagen's diesel claiming 900 KM in one tank a couple years back.

US or UK gallons, 850 KM in one tank is damn good. That's like double what we are getting now in our focuses (or foci) lol.
the mpg tests are done at 77km/h in PERFECT conditions. no wind, flat road.
If we're talking Imperial gallons my 2007 sedan has a best of 44.561 mpg. Which would be 37.037 US mpg or 6.31L/100kms. I usually get around 32-33 US mpg or 7-7.3L/100kms on pure highway and 26 US mpg or 9L/100kms for pure city. Over the first 20,000kms of my car's life I have a combined total of 8.25L/100kms or 28.3 US mpg. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm a little dissappointed by this. I was expecting a bit better from the focus (the majority of that mileage is highway, including a trip to Cape Breaton Island this summer).

We'll have to wait and see what effect the 185-65-15 winter tires have :P

-George(Yeah, I've tracked the mileage for every drop of fuel I've put in my cars since Jan. 2004 :D)
