This youtube video is very helpful when wanting to learn how your engine works and looks, I'm using it to se how the dam thing goes together when I do my tear down and rebuild with Cosworth.
I swear this is a re-post. But I am to lazy to search.
So I guess the duratec uses a timing chain. Great find, neat how they make it look so easy to put together.

IIRC correctly they have to use a chain because unlike the Zetec it's an interference engine.

Is it just me or does that Duratec have a distributor cap and no CoPs?
That's a Euro Duratec, pre-Mazda MZR engine family. That isn't what we have in the NA Focus. Duratec HE

It has a distributor-less ignition, similar to the Zetec (coilpack versus COP).
