Had the new wagon ('04) tinted on Thursday (15% rear all around and 20% on the fronts) and also removed the badging. It doesn't take much to improve the looks. I have other cosmetic issues including some rust spots and getting my other rims painted and ready for spring. I also want to remove the luggage rack. Who knew this could be so much fun. :)

All focus rust there, even all escorts rust there. It is just a ford thing. Even cars with good rust control get rust there. The only thing that stops it is mudfaps or sideskirts. Not many wagons or sedans had sideskirts so most of them are rusted there, even my borhter inlaws 04 with less than 30K on the odometer is rusted there...rocks hit there in the winter salt gets at the metal and whamo rust...

All cold have been avoided if ford just put sideskirts on cars, or even spend a few $ on some nice mudflaps on cars without em.
I just sanded mine down and painted them (Rust Check silver primer-less rust paint is pretty close to CD Silver). I finished it off with some ZX3 side skirts.

Hopefully will protect me for awhile.

Looking good though! B) Now I know what to look for around town...

I got a deal because it was a friend of a friend kinda thing but he told me the cost would have been $269 plus taxes.
Looks good. Welcome to the silver wagon club.......

My '03 zx3 has the same problem...however, I don't think its a problem across the board for ford/focii. First thing, it starts out as paint peeling, which then leads to rust on the exposed sheet metal. Furthermore, my wife's (now brother in laws) '01 sedan is spotless in the same area with 50,000 more km's.
If you ask me, I think there's some inconsistencies with the prepping/painting system.
For the record, ford quoted me about $800 to fix their crappy paint procedures...needless to say I didn't bite.
