Windsor, Ontario - The third phase of a five-phase project to widen 46 kilometres of Highway 401 from Windsor to Tilbury in Ontario has been completed. The highway leads to the Windsor-Detroit border crossing, the busiest between the two countries.

"Completion of the third phase of the project to widen Highway 401 from Windsor to Tilbury will help improve safety and keep goods and people flowing through this important trade corridor," said Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. "The completion of this phase reflects this government's commitment to improving transportation infrastructure across the country."

Both the federal and provincial governments are investing more than $330 million in the 46-km project. Phase one, completed in December 2005, involved widening and improving Highway 401 between Essex Road 42 and Highway 77. The second phase, completed in November 2006, included improvements to the highway from Puce Road to Manning Road, including additional lanes, a concrete median barrier and improved signage.

they just opened the stretch from exit 48 to exit 34 back up to 3 lanes last week. Now they've just got to widen from exit 28 to 34 and we're good to go.
