Transport Canada issues latest recalls
April 18, 2010

Ottawa, Ontario – Transport Canada has issued its latest recalls, which may affect some Nissan, Infiniti, Porsche and General Motors vehicles, some Britax child seats, and some Bridgestone tires.

2010 Nissan Frontier
2010 Nissan Pathfinder
2010 Nissan Xterra
Vehicles affected: 111

On certain vehicles, the fasteners securing the passenger front airbag module may not have been tightened to the proper torque specification. These may loosen over time and cause a rattling noise. In the event of a crash, the passenger front airbag may not deploy properly. Dealers will inspect the fasteners and torque them to specification.

2010 Nissan Frontier
2010 Nissan Pathfinder
2010 Nissan Xterra
Vehicles affected: 111

On certain vehicles, the fasteners securing the steering shaft positioning bracket may not have been tightened to the proper torque specification. They may loosen over time, causing the steering column to rattle. If the condition is not repaired, the fasteners could come out completely, resulting in noticeable steering column movement. Dealers will inspect the column and torque the fasteners to specification.

2010 Infiniti QX56
2010 Nissan Armada
2010 Nissan Frontier
2010 Nissan Pathfinder
2010 Nissan Titan
2010 Nissan Xterra
Vehicles affected: 660

On certain four-wheel drive vehicles, the joint portion of the front driveshaft may contain small cracks. These cracks may eventually lead to failure resulting in separate of the front driveshaft. If the driveshaft fails while the vehicle is moving, a loud noise will be heard. If the vehicle is in 2WD mode, the driveshaft would come to rest on the crossmember and the vehicle could be operated normally. As the driveshaft would not come in contact with brake, steering or fuel systems components, the risk of a crash is considered minimal. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace the front driveshaft if necessary.

2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder
Vehicles affected: 8

On certain vehicles, it is possible that the locking hook on the sun shield (the temporary soft top) may not engage correctly into the lock catch on the vehicle’s windshield frame. If the sun shield is not fully locked, it can open when travelling at higher speeds. Dealers will replace the locking hook and lock catch with redesigned components.

2010 Britax Frontier XT Can Pink Sky
2010 Britax Frontier XT Can Rushmore
2010 Britax Frontier XT Can Canyon
Units affected: 1,043

Certain child seats may not contain sufficient energy-absorbing materials in the head restraint area to comply with the Motor Vehicle Restraint and Booster Cushions safety regulations. A remedy kit and instructions will be provided by the manufacturer.

2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu
Vehicles affected: 36,756

On certain vehicles, the indicator light of the PRNDM provided to identify the transmission shift point is not activated under certain circumstances when the ignition key cylinder is in a zone between the ignition “Off” detent and the accessory “ACC” detent when the engine is off. This can occur if the driver rotates the key cylinder toward the “Off” detent when the engine is running, and the shift lever is in a position other than Park. This will result in the key cylinder hitting a stop, which prevents it from being fully turned into the “Off” detent position. At this key position, electrical power has been discontinued from the shift lever position indicator light. If this sequence of operator actions were to occur, the shift lever position indicator light would not be illuminated and the transmission would not be in Park. Should this happen, the key cannot be removed because the vehicle is not in Park, and if the driver exited the vehicle in the condition described above, leaving the key in the ignition, an audible warning would sound. This is not a safety-related notice of defect, and no corrective action is required.

2010 Chevrolet Express
2010 GMC Savana
Vehicles affected: 193

Certain vehicles equipped with a 145-amp alternator may develop a low-resistance short within the voltage regulator. In some cases, if the circuit does not open, the low-resistance short could eventually generate enough heat to result in an engine compartment fire. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace any suspect alternator.

2010 Porsche Panamera 4S
2010 Porsche Panamera S
2010 Porsche Panamera Turbo
Vehicles affected: 217

On certain vehicles, if the front seats are adjusted towards an extreme position, it is possible that the front seatbelt locking mechanism may not function. The seatbelt mount could detach from the anchoring system when the belt is fastened or opened. Dealers will repair affected vehicles.

2010 Bridgestone Turanza ER30
Units affected: 4

Certain tires sold in the Canadian market are non-compliant with the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, as they are missing the National Safety Mark and DOT symbol. Dealers will replace the affected tires.

Being a parent, I'd never buy a Britax kids seat. They seem to be recalled more than Toyota! :D
