Before I even begin, I have no idea what I'm doing with a PC, even less with a Mac.

I picked up a Mac iBook for 15 bucks a couple of months ago. It came with OS 9.
I got a buddy to install OS X Ver 10.2.8
I have tried to install the latest version of yahoo messenger and it says that I need a later version of OS X. Is there any way I can update the operating system without dropping the $130.00 for a version.

Please speak slowly I have no idea what I'm doing

Thanks

Rob
i have a imac and im sure you will have to spend the 130 for new version i think lol im not to keen on how my mac works yet.
You're going to have to pay for it. The latest version is 10.4.something.

Oh, and if you ever have to call Apple for support on that, have a credit card with a high available balance on it. Or just throw it in the trash, since you only paid $15 for it.

Or, maybe you can try something like this:
http://digg.com/apple/Like_Trillian._But_for_Mac_OS_X.
(yeah, the period is on the end of that, its not a typo)
Try this....

Click the apple in the top left corner of the screen.

Scroll down to Software updates.

Click on that and download the lastest updates.

If that doesn't work.....

Try downloading an OLDER version of messenger.
Thanks for you're help guys. I'm not dropping a tonne of dough on a $15 computer. I'll figure something out.
