September 2006
General Motors and Ford briefly discussed the concept of an alliance but have dropped the idea and plan no further talks, reported Automotive News, an industry trade publication.
The Detroit automaker's chief financial officers, Frederick "Fritz" Henderson of GM and Don Leclair of Ford, met recently and discussed the idea of collaboration, Automotive News said.
GM and Ford are both trying to turn around their auto operations after massive losses in North America.
Good.
It's bad enough that both companies have absolutely NO continuity between any of their cars...could you imagine if they merged

Sure, but it would handle like a Cobalt. :P
companies talk about this sort of stuff all the time... usually it never makes the news...
GM...merger with GM Europe and Australia (Vaxhaull, Holden, etc), and then you'll have GREAT cars. Cars like the Monero, Commodore, Vectra, Astra, etc.
Ford...merger with Ford Europe, and Australia too. Give us your Feistas, Focus MkII's, Falcon XR8's, Pursuits, etc.
The cars overseas look great, are very stylish/modern/rich looking inside, have ridiculously powerfull engines in the upscale models, and you could just have them built overseas and shipped here, until retooling or whatever else is needed to be done here.
the Holden monero is a GTO in North America
Which will now be discontinued
The GTO is one hell of a sleeper car ... with a 6.0L v8 it'll smoke the tires pretty easily

the biggest mistake pontiac ever made.
They should have brought it over as the monero.. instead of trying to pass it off with the classic badge. Now, if they'd gone with the retro look, like the stang, new camaro and challenger, it would have done a LOT better.
