I'm not to aware of what's the difference from Vin 3 or P when I'm asked the engine type.
Even thou my engine a 2000 zetec 16V not too sure what's meant for 3 or P..?
is this standard or automatic?

3 is the Zetec engine code
P is the SPI engine code

Nothing to do with your transmission ... more specifically the eighth position in your VIN, which you can find on your dash and a number of other places on your car, indicates the type of engine that your car was built with ..
If the 8th character in your VIN is a "3" then your car has the 2.0 litre DOHC Zetec engine ... if the 8th character is a "P" then you have the 2.0 litre SPI engine.
