Hey Guys,

Here's a question... i should probably attach a poll.

Currently i have a athlon FX-57 setup in my gaming computer. and i figure i want to max out the platform before the 939 chips dissapear completley

I have a line on a Athlon FX-60 for about 350-400 under retail price... retail box.

or thanks to amd's recent price drops. i can get a Athlon 64 X2 4800 for about 400 after taxes and such.

In the end there will be a 200.00 give or take difference between processors.

For those who dont know, the FX is more of an enthusiast processor. Unlocked multipliers and such.

FX - 60
2.6ghz Dual Core. Unlocked multiplier = Easier Overclocking. If i get this i plan to run it at a minimum of 2.8... before i adjust the FSB
so 14 * 200

X2 4800
2.4 GHZ dual core
I dont really plan on doing much overclocking if i get this setup.

Opinions?

Thanks
How many fans and how big a PSU are you running in the case right now? That would tip the scales one way or the other (Assuming you weren't budgeting for more cooling, because you'll need it if yer planning mad overclockin' :P )

Case is a thermaltake Xaser A1000... comes with 7 80mm fans... But i'm upgrading to something with a bit more room inside...

Looking at a Lian Li-PC75G or whatever... i wanted something lighter than 25kg empty too...

Powersupply - OCZ Powerstream 600w.

I'm leaning more and more towards the 4800. I wish i didnt like my board so much or i'd sell my ram, board and chip and move onto the AM2 platform or wait for the core duo to be launched.

Ah, lighter cases, mines aluminum and even loaded, but for its shape, it's a one arm lift ;)

Looks like you could certainly do either option with all that cooling power at your command. Heh next upgrade I do I'll have to dump everything so I'm holding off as long as I can (I don't hardcore game on the PC anymore, 17" LCD can't beat 50" LCD connected to a PS2 :P)

Yup, My dilemma is, is the FX-60 worht 200 more than the 4800+...

in the stores its a 630.00 difference.

4800x2 http://www.pccanada.com/viewitem.asp?id=3575

FX-60

another benefit to the fx-60 is i will be able to sell it for more once i decide to upgrade again
get the FX-60
haha, i was hoping someone would say that.

Now I just need someone to buy my FX-57... 550.00 OBO...
I'm also willing to make a deal...

for 590... take the Chip, 1gb of Hynix DDR 400. and i'll throw in a blown Asus A8N-SLI motherboard. board still has warranty remaining. I'll give you the original reciept so it can be RMA'd
I'd rather run the 4800 higher for less cash and just run a lower RAM divider if the RAM can't keep up to the HTT of the CPU bus.

They've had some wicked price cuts lately. Have you seen the NCIX offer? Shoot me an email addy Scooba and I'll email you the flyer I got from them.

YEH MAN...50% OFF...40% OFF

YEEEEEEEEEH

I want a 4400x2
Anyone around the GTA have a 800 - 1kw powersupply i can borrow for a few hours?

I dont think my Powerstream 600w is good enough for my setup anymore

My voltages have gone all wonky since i got the new processor and video
Wow... an OCZ PowerStream that can't hack it? I'm quite stunned.

Such is the fun when you live on the bleeding edge! Good luck dude.
Lol... thanks

I'm hoping its power. i dont wanna deal with a wonky board power controller...

my cpu voltage jumps up and down quite a bit. and its making me a bit worried so i want to try something out till i fix it....

I guess a FX-60, 6 Drives and a 7950GX2 are too much for the powerstream.

I just want enermax to hurry up and release the Galaxy 1000... 5x17a 12 volt rails.
