So for the last little while ive been looking around for a new job. Ive had a couple interviews so far and the first interview i had, was the first to call me back.

Right now i manage a "financial institution" called EZ-Cash advance. Its a sleazy loan shark company that makes money off of high intrest short term advances and cashing cheques. I deal with some alright people, but mainly the lower to extreme lower class people. Its a 9-5 monday-friday. Ok base pay plus bonus depending on how i reach my targets.

The problem is the customers i have. Some are great people, but most at dead beats. I have to do collection calls to people who have nothing. It drains me and makes me an angry person having to deal with deliquent accounts and rising NSF's that i cant collect.

I can see myself becoming a bitter person, and i think other people do also.

The good, its a relativly easy job, hours are good, ive been here for a while and i know what im doing. The pay is what i need to get by and do the things i like.

I got a call back from my first interview. i havent called them back yet. I just recently had a couple other for HSBC and citifinancial, but it will take a while for them to get back to me if they do.

The place that called me was a LA Weight Loss Center thats opening up in the city. Its for Sales and Councelling. Helping people lose weigth through their programs and products they offer. The hours are mixed up nights and days and splits, its the same base pay as my current job + commision on sales. Which varies.

I realize that ill get some depressing people here also, but its people that are wanting to help themselves and change their lives. Where as my current job its people looking to keep the lights on and pay for an addiction.

LA Weight loss, they have these "pump up" meetings, which im not a fan of. But its helping people. Ive gone through a 55 lbs weigth loss and i know what it can do to a person.

Current job
con
-depressing, draining emotionally
-clientelle isnt the best
-company managment is micky mouse
-no satisfaction
pro
-good hours
-good pay (with bonus, that i make everytime)

new offer
con
-"pump up" gayness
-sales job
-commission
-mixed up hours

pro
-job satisfaction, helping people
-more room for advancment
-no stress from dead beats and low life collections

I could make the same pay at the new job or maybe even more, but i can also make less.

This is only the first offer i got back for a job, ideally id like to get a job with another financial company cuz the money is better.

But then again, i might find some rich fat chick, get her slim and hot, and then marry her and drive a lambo. (i have a girl friend so there is some sarcasim in there)

Im not the type to take risks, so this is hard for me.
Personally I wouldn't wanna stay in a job that i knew was gonna turn me into a bitter person. I'm like you in that i like to stay somewhere once i get comfortable, but sometimes you've gotta move on. If you're not super pysched about the LA weight loss job I'd say wait and see if you here back from the financial places you applied to. Especially if thats where you wanna end up.
Its one of these things where it looks like i could get real satisfaction out of my job (LA weight loss)...but to me its risky. Im thinking i should hold out to see if any of my other interviews get back to me.

But then again, i dont want to tell them to wait, and lose it, and no one else call back, and im still stuck in the same job.
Wow.

I used to have the same job. Management at a payday loan company... was easy, with all the ups and downs that you specified.

For me, there was also the part where you tell people what you do for a living. Not exactly anything to brag about.

I left because there was no future, and the industry as a whole is in a decline. Combine that with the spectre of government regulation and consumer backlash, and it was downright scary.

LA Weight Loss would be selling VERY expensive packages. A former coworker of mine (at the loan place) went through them with marginal results.

I now work for a sub prime car leasing company. Similar market to HSBC (worked for them when they were still Household Financial) and Citi. Wells Fargo is the other player in that market. Still sub-prime, but a notch above payday loan companies. Better pay, and a better career path.

Worst case, make the jump, gain some experience in another level of sub-prime, then make the jump to prime (big bank) markets. Its what i'll probably end up doing.
^^^ so many points I relate to there.

I HATE telling people what i do for a living. And your right there is no future and the backlash is terrible.

During the LA weight loss interview they said there packages cost like $800, i was like HOLY MOLY!!

Im leaning right now towards holding out and trying to get into the sub-prime or prime companies. Or somethign completely different. I just want out of THIS job. Im desperate not for money, but for something i enjoy.

I think i should wait.

Did LA Weight Loss happen to mention what experience you have that makes you suitable for their job?

I might be cynical here, but it seems to me that a big part of any expensive weight loss company is getting people to stay on the program despite what may be marginal results (ie: most people who try to lose weight) and / or people who have the need and the desire, but don't have the money to continue.

Again ... I might just be cynical -- but you may be simply exchanging a collections job for something very similar.

My advice is to wait and get other offers to consider before making a decision on LA Weight loss. You've got an income and you've got prospects -- give yourself the benefit of choice.

Just my .02.

i don't know what you have for a background phil, but have you tired any of the banks like RBC, CIBC, Scotia, or even some of the major hotel chains around here.

the market might be pretty good right now in saskatoon, i know it was a little hard to find something. saskatchewan is pretty much a province of who you know. took me awhile to find something that i went to school for here.
how old are you fatso?

no really. except the fatso because i am currently a little round in size.
^^ talking to me? or someone else? Im 22. Just a young pup.

LA weight loss considered me good for the job becuase i have previous sales experience and going through a huge physical change myself, thought i would be good for the clients.

But you make a good point Meford, i might be getting into the same thing, same s*** different pile. And i think i might take your advice and hold out. I think im just desperate to egt out of this job, and it kind of seems like im settling. I have a second interview at HSBC, and i just out resumes to BMO, and im gonna try some other banks too.

Tyler-yeah this place sucks for jobs, so wonder everyone is leaving this place. Im thinking im going to take some courses coming up for nutrition and personal training.

Its looking like ill stick it out until something i really want comes my way. Which could mean heading west.
Your young. Pack the bags and head back to TO. Sleep at puppets house and drink his beer. Get a job sometime later.

Let me know if that happens. We're always hiring. After I started here, went back to my old loan company and sniped a few key employees. Sub-prime auto finance.

Whats the name of the company you work for?
I'm in a job that drains me mentally from dealing with the stress of unruley customers, who are rude, arrogant, and a PITA. If I could find another job with messed up hours and a gay pump up time, I'd take it.
I wouldnt mind the messed up hours, but i have alot of other stuff going on outside of work, part-time job, part-time school, basketabll league, gym, amazing race 9...so i need some solid hours.

I just found out that they have 3 week training, paid AFTER completion...3 weeks no money...pfffttt.
