If you were overtaking a vehicle or changing lanes you can accellerate beyond the posted speed limit to accomplish overtaking...not sure about that someone told me that once....probably BS Yes your friend gave you B.S., It is not legal to exceed the speed limit while overtaking. I guess the reasoning is that if you have to exceed the limit then the person you are passing is probably doing the limit, therefore no need to pass. As for getting the points dropped, I have never heard this before, I have seen them drop the fine but the points stay! The thing that is legal about passing though is that it IS legal to pass on a solid line in Ontario.
