You guys are always putting up your "look what I just got" topics .. haha.. Decided since this is a somewhat geeky purchase I would put my own up and see what the media people have to say.

Plus the people who want to say im wasting money.. =P

I bought this little guy today...

Funny thing is its probably worth more then some focus' on here... so its definetly not a small purchase by any means. It was a tough call at first but I needed a new cam and entry level cams just DO NOT cut it for anything proffessional so I was forced to get something better.

Im going to be directing/prod a mini doc this year about what we do here in Toronto with this cam (and the couple smaller ones I have here and have access to) and hopefully its got what it takes to show it at a couple indy film festivals. Ive been immensed with filming/directing lately... its just as interesting to me as the actuall runing and jumping part.

Ill also be taking this thing with me to France in a week and a half to document my 2 week trip there to the mecca of where Parkour started...

Fun times.

sweet..

That cam is hardcore man..

The Panasonic Lumix series of digicams have the Leica branded lens'.

what type of film/media does that corder take?!

Its still minidv.
I opted not to go for HD since anyone who would want to licence footage off me anyways isnt going to want it in HD.. no point spending the extra money..

nice cam!

colour me jealous...

now you gotta get yourself a fluid mount tripod and steadycam, and a couple of mics.

Geek Post By Me... - FocusGuy7476 - 04-05-2006

no that spending money at its finest, not a on some LCD screen or Video iPod.

The accessories will be the death of me and end up costing me just as much as the Cam. :(

You should hook up with mo's friend.

He does good stuff (videographer) and I am still trying to get my work to get off their collective asses and have him be involved in a project we have going.

Super-jealous Danno. Nice cam indeed!

But wait, now you'll really see how slow the SPI is.... someone distract him, quick! :P

GREAT INVESTMENT.

Gorgeous camera too! :)

Wow, that's a nice rig, looks like it weighs a fair bit though. You investing in a tripod for it fairly soon I trust? As for much it set you back, I know I don't wanna know how much that was, but I'm betting that's dangerously close to the cost of going FI would be for me :D

if you consider that a 3CCD HD video camera costs around $9G US, I think a regular def 3CCD would be between 3 and 5G.. haven't checked the specs of that particular camera, but it depends on the featureset.

I remember working with the betacam systems from sony... the base of the camera cost $10,000, the lense cost $20,000, balanced mics came in around $500-$700... fluid mount tripods were about $700-$1000/ea .. and most steadycam rigs I've priced for a full size camera start at $5,000 and accelerate up from there.

you can get a steadycam jr for under $500, including ones with built in mono-pod-- if you shop around, and anyone with a camcorder should consider getting one... it makes ALL the difference.

p.s. I've seen the films submitted to smaller filmfestivals like the whistler film festival... you don't need much more than a webcam to make a movie apparently.

Don't forget about the footage of Paparoach and your Mom that we are all eagerly waiting to see.

And if you want to take some courses on editing, cinematography, etc. I have friends that put me in touch with a group in Ottawa that apparently if you want recognition for your work, you need to go to their courses and get your foot in the door with the in crowd.

Have you ever considered volunteering on a movie set? They usually just get you to be the errand boy at first. But when they aren't shooting, the technical guys will give you alot of information and tips in the industry.

Let me know if you want to pursue this information further.

And nice unit BTW.
