New Newb - 2003ZTW - 05-17-2011

Hey all,
Newb here. Learned some things reading this forum and hope to learn more. Don't do any of my own maintenance (live in an apartment and the landlord won't allow it) but would like to be able to one day. For now I'm hoping to understand the basics well. Gotta start somewhere. Glad to see there is a Canadian forum.
Cheers

welcome Fc! any pics of ur ride?

RE: New Newb - audionut405 - 05-17-2011

Welcome to the site! There's tons of good info on here and really helpful members, so don't be shy. You should try and snap a few pics of the ride for us. Where are you located?

RE: New Newb - 2003ZTW - 05-17-2011

Thanks. I'm located in K/W, Ont. The car is stock and plain jane. Most interesting picture I have. Sorry it's not as pretty to look at as some cars here.

Welcome to the forums!

RE: New Newb - audionut405 - 05-17-2011

Hey, we all start somewhere. Looking good though!

RE: New Newb - 2003ZTW - 05-17-2011

I had a 97' Escort wagon before that which was a great car. Had over 300,000km but had rust and needed other work. So I traded it in for this. I do a lot of outdoor activities - can't beat a wagon. My wife is looking to get a 07' ZX5 Hatch as a commuter. I was hoping to learn about basic maintenance (when to spend more, when not, how it should be done properly) to start with. Maybe some do some mods after I understand more. I figure it's time to learn more about the car I drive.
Cheers

RE: New Newb - MuskokaZX3 - 05-17-2011

Was the first picture from Algonquin park? More specifically the landing at smoke lake?

RE: New Newb - 2003ZTW - 05-17-2011

^^^ It is Algonquin. Tim Lake access. Great trip. Saw no one for 4 days and had the entire lake to ourselves minus the wildlife.

RE: New Newb - MuskokaZX3 - 05-17-2011

Right on!! Ohhh, welcome btw! My parents live at oxtongue lake, 11 km from the east gate. I worked in the park for a summer on smoke lake and canoe lake.

Welcome ... always nice to have another wagon on the site ... as you can tell from my sig I'm rather fond of the wagon myself.

Cheers

RE: New Newb - Focus man. Focus. - 05-17-2011

Welcome. You have posted pics of the first amphibious focus on FC.

RE: New Newb - 2003ZTW - 05-17-2011

paolo: Ariel shot is just a snap shot off my balcony as it was lightly raining. I'm 16 floors up which is too far for my lens. Car is about 20-25 feet away from the building. I think if you could find a roof about 5-10 floors high and get the car parallel to the building and within 10 feet it would look more straight on. It would be a nice shot for the members with nice cars.

ZTWsquared: Wow - love them and leave them. The wagons are great all around. The 2012 one looks nice, it might change peoples idea of what a wagon is all about.

Yeah I guess it might look like that LOL ... my wife and I traded up wagons every few years and 2 of them were written off due to accident.

My last wagon was the '07 ZXW and it was made in December '06 - the last week they made Focus wagons before they were discontinued. R.I.P.

RE: New Newb - 2003ZTW - 05-17-2011

ZTWsquared: I had figured you had done well in trades. Tongue Nice, I wish I would have gotten an 07' but the price was right.
I have a deal with my car - if she'll be good to me; I'll be good to her.

MuskokaZX3: Tim Lake access again. Can't see the car well but I have never taken a picture to show my car off. I figured I was the only one who would like a wagon.

That's an awesome shot!

RE: New Newb - PEGASIX - 05-17-2011

AMAZING PICTURE and wagons are awesome if you ask me

RE: New Newb - 2003ZTW - 05-18-2011

The wagons are awesome and great if you do some outdoor activities - no question about it. Driving on dirt roads and going though big pot holes in them might not be best for your paint job though.

---
Well my wife came back from looking at a '07 ZX5 SES. Our mechanic pointed out the rocker panel had some work done (and could have been done better) and told her it would be a problem in a few years. He also said get new rubber if possible and the bumper need to replaced. The dealer was willing to put on new rubber (don't know how good - but it had some Pirelli P6's which are ok-ish). Was willing to do something about the bumper - maybe. They said not much could be done about the rocker. We walked away from it - but no hard feelings - the dealer was upfront and seems like a human being.

Like I said - I'm a newb and the rocker work was so obvious once pointed out, but we both feel better about learning a bit more though.
Cheers

Thats not the greatest for anyones paint job. My parents live in Kearney and all the roads are poor at best. Especially if your dropped 3".
