GFXjamie,Oct 21 2008, 01:04 AM Wrote:some bad news of the night, went to visit a friend in brampton after the meet, was on the 401 on my way home between townline and hwy 6, started to hydro plane and my rear end kicked out. i hit the wall and removed my rear bumper completely, trashed passeneger side rear quarter and lost a tail light. car was fortunately still in great driveable condition. after picking up my bumper cover and any large pieces off the side of the highway i continued home which happened to be 15 minutes away. once i get pictures i will post what happened. hit the wall at about 80 km/h once i started to slow down and spin. ended up facing the cars coming at me but managed to stay out of the front end of the trucks beside me. i got really lucky... besides that, got to meet a couple more guys and had a good chat at tim hortons. tomorrow i have to go to reporting office

Oh man - that sucks Jamie - glad you're okay ... before you go to the reporting office you may want to consider the impact on your insurance rates + your deductible vs. the cost of repairing the car on your own dime.

At your age (not being ageist here) your insurance premiums could go up huge for an at fault collision - which for sure they would deem this to be since there was only one car involved.

Deffinatly think about that, I have a clean record and most insurance companies want about $900 a month from me. Right now it's under my father name and I'm an occational driver only paying $150 a month.
I wrecked the front end of my car this year rebuilt it in 4 days and only cost me $1500 all in with repainting my front bumper, and new head light. Take a look at my facebook pics to see it. John MacNeil, you should be able to add me.

Another thing to consider IIRC - is that the government might try to charge you for the repairs, if any, to the guardrails etc ... even if you don't make an insurance claim.

Ken makes a good point here but no matter what you should still report it. What people don't understand most of the time is if you report it you still don't have to notify your insurane its completely different and they don't contact your insurance people i had an insident a few years ago and i reported it and then went through with a private fix up anyways but since you were the only one involved its up to you to report it. I know if it was the front end you would be pulled over and being asked if you were involved with a hit and run and without a report you can get in serious trouble. But the important thing is your unhurt cars can be fixed and how bad was the road for you to by hydroing.

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - Focus man. Focus. - 10-22-2008

That totally sucks man. Everything seems to fall apart when I am not around, with the exception of Daniel. He seems to bring his own bad luck where ever he goes. Sorry Dan, I had to. LOL

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - GFXjamie - 10-22-2008

my dad went to take a closer look at the car today and he seems to think that there is some twist in it. what i hit was the contrete wall in the middle, only damage to it is some red paint on it so as far as that goes i think im fine. contacting the insurance shorty to discuss with them then make the report. im just not in the right state of mind right now. i have some pictures i took this morning and ill post some up soon. i dont think privately fixing it is an option. it is gunna take a lot to get it back to previous condition i think. i hit the wall so hard that the bumper support behind the cover etc was hit on the passenger side so hard it ripped out of the drivers side mounting point and is flopping around there now. my trunk lid doesnt line up at all, it sticks up about a half inch higher then before and also has a different gap side to side. i got really lucky last night. i was about 2 feet from the nose of a transport and was lucky the car stayed in the same lane and then over to the middle. ill give you guys updates and what i hear.

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - Spinal - 10-22-2008

i hear ya dude, fixing it out of your own pocket is only an option if a) you got the $ B) the damage is that big. a close friend of mine went to advoid a sign in the road last winter, turned to miss it....guess it was too sudden and round he went. he hit the guardrail and bumped off the bridge. split the bumper right in half, took out the headlight, most of the grill, popped the tire because i guess the impact of the car hitting the curb just made it explode, and the rad support was gone (for the most part) as well as a new hood.

with labour it cost the insurance company $8000 - the car was a fofo and was only a year or so old at the time and im sure the body shop milked the insurance company, i mean the plastic grill supposedly cost 100$ so yea...anywho try see how much is actually damaged, if its just on the "surface" you may be able to take a trip to the junkyard/ford and get some oem stuff and fix it yourself.

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - GFXjamie - 10-22-2008

well the car is only 10 months old, ya, i havent even owned it for a year! 34,000 kms on it aswell. some things it will definately need, complete rear bumper support and cover, new trunk lid, new passenger side rear quarter, new tail light. the bumper support is going to have to be completely re done as i said before, the studs it is held in by were torn out of the sheet metal on the opposing side. so long as the frame is not twisted it will most likely be fixed. if it is, i guess im in the market for a new car :( i really want to stick with the focus to.

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - Scorcher000 - 10-22-2008

Wow I'm putting a price of about $5500 on this. Let me know if I'm right. Hope it's cheap though and everything goes good for you, you deserve it.

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - Spinal - 10-22-2008

that sucks dude =( damage basically looks the same as my friends who ran into the bridge. however above the bumper looks unscaved, see what you can scrape up from a scrap yard or ford, you may have some luck =) maybe even go euro B)

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - Scorcher000 - 10-22-2008

Is that support thing hanging there painted red is that metal or plastic?

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - GFXjamie - 10-22-2008

the bumper support you mean? its metal and it ripped right out of the body. working on insurance now, my father has been talking to them so ive just gotta give him all the details and he is going to deal with it all for me. im hoping all goes well.

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - Scorcher000 - 10-22-2008

Ok wow soooo, I change my amount let's say $7000. Good luck.

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - GFXjamie - 10-22-2008

im actually surpised at how well it held up, just think, i was going 110 on the 401, did a 180 and smoked the concrete embankment... i was expecting worst .

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - Scorcher000 - 10-22-2008

They stand up good I've been in 3 accident so far and the first one I hit the back of a chevy pick and and buckled the quarter pannels, bent the bumper and bent the tailgate. The only damage done was my hood lifted a bit, grill arm was broken and the inside bolt on the head light was broken too.

Massiv Monday Meet Oct 20 - ZX3_2NV - 10-22-2008

could be Cheap could be expensive it all depends on the frame if not shouldn't be that bad new bumper and re bar and stuff but this might mess you up
[Image: focuscrash005.jpg]

hopefully you won't need a new quarter panel.
