RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - hardk0re - 11-09-2010

nate, what makes you say deto? IIRC he's running low compression and no boost yet. However that hole in the EGR looks like it could have caused some bad issues with the tune...

This pic here...which Im assuming is the top of his piston??? Probably wrong, especially if hes not running boost, I havent read the 26+ pages. Tongue

looks like my pour pistons...

EDIT: Now that I look back at his pics I see thats his intake pipe....carry on. lol

That pic is his intake tube Tongue

Lol your pic looks like someone went at it with a center punch....

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - Flofocus - 11-09-2010

gotta love....errr....hate bad tuners. Glad hes out of business.

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-09-2010

my car is NOT tuned and NEVER was tuned...and we realised today this is my issue with the running rich

did a compression test here are the numbers on 1 crank 2 cranks and 3 cranks

piston 1:
1 crank 93
2 cranks 130
3 cranks 147

piston 2:
1 crank 95
2 cranks 135
3 cranks 150

piston 3:
1 crank 95
2 cranks 125
3 cranks 145

piston 4:
1 crank 95
2 cranks 130
3 cranks 145

so everything is normal there

i took pistures of the spark plugs and what not so heres the pics i took tonight

in order form piston 1 - 4

and the car as it sits as of 20 minutes ago

4" exhaust? A little overkill much IMO.

What Tial are you gonna be running, 38mm or 44mm?

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-09-2010

im rrunning 3" exhaust and im going with 38mm tial mv-s wastgate
if you look closly at the one picture it looks like debris on the piston in cylinder 1 perhaps oil deposits balled up????? next time i go work on it ill take a teloscopic magnet and see if i can gather any metal on it
just took these now of the valve cover baffle

feels like sand.... perhaps thats whats in cylinder 1??? prolly gonna pull the head now to inspect further

maf sensor covered in oily film

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-10-2010

well decided were gonna pull the head this weekend just for piece of mind....anyone got any tips to make it this as easy as possible lol

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-10-2010

anybody have any ideas what might be happening here?????

Your MAF problem is more than likely unrelated to your internal problem, although it could be related to your tuning problems ... you're probably using an oiled air filter like a K&N and that's more than likely the source of the oil.

Looking at what's on your finger it looks to me like bits of gasket and your number one plug looks wet with oil ... so I'm taking a wild guess here and guessing blown head gasket around cylinder 1 - although you would think you'd have compression issues if that was indeed the problem.

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-10-2010

the oil from the maf is oil spitting from the valve cover into my intake pipe that i know and my intake filter is an aem dry flow

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - hardk0re - 11-10-2010

With the little bits there, can you check if they are metalic? Are they aluminum or steel? What you should do is pull off the oil pan, if there are fillings in the VC then odds are there are some in the oil pan. If the oil pan is clean then I don't think there is cause for too much concern. You've done a comp test that showed steady results.

As I said oil out of the VC is probably too much pressure in the crank case, you should really plumb it to a catch can and back to the intake manifold, this will releave pressure on the bottom so it is not forcing out of the top. Plus a catch can off of the VC, keeping it higher than the VC itself so you don't get a syphoning effect.

Pulling the head may be overkill IMHO

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-11-2010

Ill check at lunch on the stuff in the valve cover......

As for catch can all I have is the block off plate to catch can and catch can is dumped to the ground
Ill run the tube from the can to the back of the manifold and then one from catch can to vc

Ill pull the pan saturday first before I pull the head

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-11-2010

So I checked the valve cover grit and when I rub it between my fingers it breaks down and isn't sharp

RE: NEED HELP!!!! - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-15-2010

pulled the head everything looks good just alot of carbon on the pistons so ill have to ckean them up with some piston cleaner.....however i think it was running a little hot and youll see where in the pictures

well there you go looks like the dowels to line the head to block melted

RE: UPDATE PULLED HEAD - My Engine/turbo Build - GFXjamie - 11-16-2010

dirty...

im surprised from running basically factory everything that its got that much nasty carbon build up already. have you been running the car like a grandma or using crap gas??

RE: UPDATE PULLED HEAD - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-16-2010

i havent really been driving it hard and i am using 91 octane

RE: UPDATE PULLED HEAD - My Engine/turbo Build - GFXjamie - 11-16-2010

ya thats a ton of carbon build up for the short period of time running the car. running rich would attribute to a lot of that tho along with driving like a little old lady, gotta give er the right foot to clean it out or just boost LOL

RE: UPDATE PULLED HEAD - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-16-2010

lol i brought the head home tonight and gonna give it come elbow grease and clean the valves all nice nice......got my new head gasket today and proper intake manifold gaskets but the dowels are gonna be another 6 days Sad

RE: UPDATE PULLED HEAD - My Engine/turbo Build - drunkinmonkey - 11-23-2010

so this past weekend i got the motor all cleaned up and half back togetheri cant find the cable for my phone right now to load the pictures so i willl pos tthem when i can find it lol
