I took my 03 Focus SVT to the track sunday . After about 2 laps I noticed the oil temperature gauge going all the way up on the straightaway , but not reaching the red zone , then after the turn went down to about 3/4 ( in a matter of seconds ). I have been on the track on several hot days but never noticed such a fluctuation in reading .Actually the reading it's always been at the same or just a tad higher on the track than it's been on the street .It usually shows1/2 to 5/8 . But this happened repeatedly during sunday's lapping session . What do you guys think ?

Faulty oil temp sensor. Good place to start, probably reasonably cheap to replace.
