My First Dpfe Failure <sniff> I'm So Proud!
#1
Well, out of 5 Focuses racking up a total 200,000 km, (70k+70k+40k+15k+40k=235 holy crap!) I finally had a DPFE sensor failure on one of them!

I guess I'm just lucky.

I knew exactly what it was too. It started driving at very light load around 200rpm, I got a slight bucking, power loss. It slowly got worse and worse, finally threw a light. I knew it was the EGR system, and was pertty sure it was the DPFE. Sure enough...

Is it just coincidence they just *happened* to have the parts in stock? ;)

Mine went about 130,000 km...and that's for a 2002!

I guess it's kinda reassuring that anyone with a 2002 or later seem to have fewer DPFE problems than with the 2000 and 2001 owners. However, still having this problem is a sign that it's a sore spot in this car's lineage. (That, and rear wheel bearings.)

Welcome to the DPFE club.

Wow... when can I be a part of the club?

If my DPFE ever goes, I think I might just save the hassle, and just disable the EGR... especially since I seem to have one of the few 2002 with 2001 parts on it.

Apparently the DPFE system is Ford's NUMBER 1 warranty problem, and it affects many vehicle lines, not just Focus. My company supplies EGR systems to Ford, and there's a big push to develop a new technology to do away with the DPFE system because it's so bad.

If you get rid of your EGR system, you'll lose 2-4mpg. Just so you know.

From what I'm told, the Lincoln LS is one of the main products affected aside from the Focus.

I've had mine replaced 3 times within 30,000km. I think they may have finally improved the replacement part as I've gone one year and 15,000 more km without trouble.
