Car Idles Rough
#1
Well it’s been about two weeks that Kelly’s car been acting up. Here are the symptoms
1- Idles around 600 to 700. Before it used to be around 8-900
2- Feels like dying once you come to a full stop and it has stalled once on the hwy during stop and go traffic.
3- Gas mileage is the same, it hasn’t changed that much.

Now for what has been changed already
1- changed the spark plugs and wires
2- changed the fuel filter
3- changed the air filter
4- changed the oil
5- cleaned the TB
6- check engine light is NOT on
7- DPFE was changed last year when the engine light came on. its been ok since

so I’m running out of things to check. Also there are no vacuum leaks and the car is a 2001 ZTS stock with no mods at all.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Check each Wire to see if its grounding to anything.

I had the same thing, stalled once while coming to a stop, real low idle at rest in gear.

Does it get better in neutral with the clutch in? The same?

It could be a cracked coil - that's what we replaced to fix our problems.

We go to different gas stations, I have also added fuel injection cleaner, still the same

Also the wires are snug. checked it twice and they are good.

I'll check the coil. Maybe it is the problem.

I was JUST going to suggest you do a search for Flo's issues a while back.

Apparently the wires going INTO the sensor were exposed and severed.

Just a quick note: mine's a 2000 Zetec and it has always idled in the 600-700 range which, I believe, is where they are supposed to idle.

Clean the MAF connector too, make sure it's dry. I remember taking my intake apart for some serious cleaning, and sprayed half a can of Red Stallion Intake cleaner directly into the TB while we kept the enging running. Flushed the oil, and the car ran like a swiss watch after this. I also had to make sure that the MAF was nice and snug and no damage to the harness.

Don't worry, you could have an S197 with "Drive-by-wire" TPS...sometimes there's almost 2 stages to the accelerator...and a BAD delay from 1/2-WOT in 2nd gear...mind you, once I switched to 100% Synthetic on my last oil change, the car is STUPID fast at WOT in 2nd...even with the TCS still on...

Best of luck to you!
