Down On Power... Sometimes?
#1
Hey guys, been a while... hope all is well.

A quick question,

the svt has been obviously low on power a few times recently. The feel reminds me of when I had the S2 and melted the internals of the cat from the shorty header. It was down on power because the exhaust was essentially clogged. So with the svt, I have an intake, throttle body, wires/coilpack, and SCT tune for 94 octane... do you think this combo is enough to produce similar results? I just don't know why else it would be down on power and fairly inconsistenly.

Thanks,

Carey

Look into your vaccum hoses, you may have a kink somewhere or something undone.

Also, has this occoured with another brand of fuel? How are the plugs / airfilter etc???

good thought on the hoses, I'll check those. Plugs... possible as well, they are oem after all. Air filter is a new cone, and only has a few thousand kms on it. Fuel.. only one brand, sunoco 94.

thanks Anthony.

Those are the "simple" checks.

You sure your not driving with the parking brake on :P

Also, try a fuel additive as well. Fuel injector cleaner etc... for 10 bucks it't worth a try.

nope... how can I do that? I'm not really educated on that component and what its function is.

thanks

listen carefully to the car..
I'm not sure what the SCT tune changed.

on a stock svt you should hear the manifold change between 5-6000 rpm.

the whole tone of the engine will change, that'll let you know if its open or not.

if you cant hear any change, the runner clip has probably broken.

its a common issue with the svts... especially around 40-60k
