If it was a modern day Tempo at least the fuel pumps on the Focus could have lasted untill 185,000k's like the one on my brother's old '86 Tempo, and as far as having go-cart like handling it's not even close maybe after a few mods to the suspension but the way it comes out of the factory it's not even close.

my topaz's fuel pump started to leak at 280,000km,
and its a lot more gokart like than a topaz for sure, or an F-150 or taurus, i think its gokart like, because its so small and nimble

fun economy car? Yes.

Go-cart like? Not after spending a day at Solo II in a gutted NX2000 with suspension and R compounds.

That's the basis of my assessment as well the car does handle well out of the factory but if you want to push it around the track like a go-cart you'll have to do some mods to the suspension. I've spent a bit of time behind the wheel of some very fast Mini's and other race cars so no the Focus does not handle like a Go-Cart out of the factory.

Hmmm, do the same mods to a Focus as the NX2000 and I'm sure you'd have the same result. How bout a stock vs. stock comparison with that NX???

I basically had a 1985 NX1600, except there was no real comparison to today. It handled very well for the copious amount of bodyroll it brought to the party. Today's Focus spanks it stock for stock, and given the 1991 NX1600 I drove, same thing.

Focus > NX.
