Hey chaps,
I am doing a small research on metrication issues and would like your input. Assuming that Canadian schools have all gone metric a long time ago, I want to ask you about domestic unofficial units of measurements - units that you use in a comfort of your own home
- Short distance? [metres or feet]<>
- Long distance? [km or miles]<>
- Temperature? [Celcius or Farenheit]<>
- Volume? [Litres or Gallons/Pints/Qt]<>
- Mass? [kg/grammes or pounds/oz]<>
- Land area? [ha or acres]<>
[st]What I am asking is rather in what units you think. I am particularly interested in people who were born in Canada and studied in schools after they all had gone metric.
Cheers!

Partially Metric for me...
A (feet), B (km), C (celcius), D (litres), E (kg), F (acres)
Does that help?

Come to think of it I use miles but mean Km. I just got so used to hearing miles an hour etc.. as a kid, and the temperature thing always bugged me when someone tells you how warm the pool is... I guess old habbits are hard to break?

From the early 1970s until 1985, the federal government operated the Metric Commission. This commission was created to plan, coordinate and implement metric conversion programs in Canada, with the help of Canadian consumers and representatives from diverse industries and sectors of the economy. When the Metric Commission ended its work in 1985, significant progress had been made to introduce metric into all aspects of life in Canada. While the seeds were planted over those fifteen years, all Canadians have since been responsible for nourishing the use of metric in Canada.

I'm totally screwed -- not only was I in school during the change over -- I'm in the automotive industry where half the equipment is imperial based and the other half is metric. And then throw in the flying on the side that deals with litres, US gallons, nautical miles and knots.
Short distance? feet
Long distance? km (or nm)
Temperature? Celcius (flying) and Farenheit for everything else
Volume? Gallons/Pints/Qt
Mass? pounds/oz
Land area? acres

1 square kilometer, about 2.5 acres. That's the only way I can picture it.
