I had to replace the front two section of the exhaust on my 2003 Zetec Wagon (they saved and reused the lunch box at the back). It came out to over $1100, at the dealer. Ouch!
I was bummed because the system went after only about 6 years. My 1995 Escort was still on its factory-original exhaust when it went to the Big Scrapyard in the Sky last summer (OK, the pipe did finally break the month before I scrapped the car, but still, nearly 15 years was amazing)
I had done a bit of research for the 2003, and most parts places told me that the Ford bits last about twice as long as the aftermarket stuff. However, they also cost twice as much. I'm sure other folks on this list have more detailed knowledge, and specific experience.
