The duratec is an interference engine, hence the switch to chain vs belt
According to the "normal" maintenance schedule for my 2003, the timing belt is to be replaced at 120,000 miles which translates to roughly 192,000 km ... so 100,000 km might be a bit early for replacement unless you have reason to suspect it's due to fail.
