Well Safe is such a Broad term.
Anything over 800watt peak will put some strain on your alternator. It may cause the car to idle up and down on its own. Ats about it.
A cap wont solve these problems but basicly when the engine idle change's its not as bad. The amp is pulling on the cap and the cap is allway's pulling on the engine for power. But the cap pull's at a constant so the alternator isnt being pushed so much.
But with out a cap it wont matter at a 1000watt. Alternator dont care, So big deal you shave a year off its life span. lol
For the record I run a 1.5 cap on an 800watt amp. Only reason is I got them as a package deal.
