It's all about teaching your kids to eat everything in moderation.
When I was growing up, my mother hid everything from chips to chocolate away so it was away from us and we were not to have it. Well, guess what happened when i left the house and went to university? I didn't know how to handle all that crap food and I was like a fat kid in a candy store.
Now we have junk food in the house for all to eat. But the funny thing is, that learning to eat in moderation, the fruit tends to be the first thing that disappears in our house and the junk food sits for longer stretches uneaten.
Moderation to eating a variety of food is key.
The nutritionist I am seeing now has informed me that eating 6 times a day, not letting yourself get hungry is a key to weight loss and maintenance. Eating more small meals will keep the body burning energy and not storing it thinking that this might be the last meal for a while.
Also, eating a variety of foods is key. When the body gets used to the same foods, even the same food over twice a week, it tends to form patterns of dissapating the food and turning into fuel or fat.
Bottom line for us all. Eat what you want in moderation.
