This is a bad comparision though....who would say no to an extra 67Hp? they both have 130ft/lb. ;)

Maybe the RSX S and Focus SVT would be better to compare. i think theyre close in #'s.

The SI is quite the machine, 200horsies, 6 speed, lsd, nothing to joke about!

A good friend just picked one up for $24g's, not a bad price at all for what you get. I would of gotten a WRX though! :lol:

^^ u know whats funny though.....it is really hard to find a new Si for a test drive.....i mean they are something like MS3 when those came out.....u buy it before u even test drive it....

were SVTF like that as well when they came out? something that you could windowshop but could not test?

Well, i saw about 3 or 4 of them in Pembroke Honda Dealer a few weeks ago.
i guess it all depends on location/demand.

For the price difference of my ST and the Si, I can easily make ALOT more than 197HP and 130 tq! (my St has 154 tq :P )

The SVTF was like that, you had to have the papers signed before you drive. But thats only for new ones.

That being said I'd pay more for new VW GTI with 207 lbs-ft @ 1800rpm over the Civic SI with 139 lbs-ft @ 6100rpm.

But hes still spending so much more than me!!!
If I wanted to spend big bucks for power right off the dealer lot, I would simply get another stang.

Here is the difference in payements for both with no options:

Civic Si : 639.50/month for 60 months. ($38,370.00 is price after taxes/interests) on honda site.

Fcus ST : 389.73/month for 60 months. ($23,023.80 is price after taxes/interests) on Ford site.

So, for $15,000... it is simply not worth it!

back on target. torque is what you feel when you push the accelerator.
torque is good for city driving, but power is good for higher speeds.

i prefer HP comparisons because it inheriantly includes the rpm into the equation.

if you were to compare two cars acceleration but only in one gear, the higher TQ car would win, but if you compare two cars accel accross multiple gears, the higher HP car would win.

You've got a Focus with a Zetec, so you've automatically got the best of both worlds.

I think both are important (torque&hp),but there is some conditions. Say a light car doesn't need to much torque to move around than a heavy car,also torque can improve fuel economy .The bad side of torque are mostly money(factory money)like the internal of the engine should be stronger and drive train parts should take the additional stress. Also the image issue of torque, say you have a car that makes 200hp&100Ft.lbs and a car that makes 100hp&160Ft.lbs people will take the 200hp car any day.

In racing application like drag racing you want Hp, and in track racing you want torque. For a daily driver I will take torque over Hp, less shifting ,good passing power B)

i believe low torque cars 'feel' slower than they really are from a standstill because they have to be launch abusively to be fast off the line.. like.. a modified wrx will feel much slower than a s4 in everyday driving coming off a stop light because the wrx has very little torque off the line but the s4 has a huge v8 with tons of torque down low... but driving in the mountains the difference between the cars isn't as apparent when the wrx being driven full throttle/full boost

the idea motor i think is something like those big v10 setups.. power power everywhere at any speed from idle up to 8k rpm redline

My best was 17.350 (That was the run that beat the Civic) bearing in mind it was my first time doing anything like that and I hadn't altered the transmissions shift points at the time.

Torque is the amount of force your engine can exert.

HP is the amount of work your car is doing at a moment in time. Really, HP is the fudge number.

My focus and my stang made similar power. The stang makes waaaay more torque and you feel that leaving the line. If you're above 1500 RPM, it's GO GO GO... in any gear.

the focus had more HP but way less torque -- you had to pick your gears wisely, and acceleration didn't kick in nearly as early... granted of course that mathematically, the more torque you have down low, the more HP you'll have down low... but technically, it's the torque that's applying the force to move, not the HP.

Hey steve, those are respectable numbers, and I know it's very easy to get that 4.0L to get up and dance. Did you run the 18's on the dyno run, or something smaller? I know on these cars, rim and tire choice has a lot of bearing on your Dyno results. I think I am going to have to baseline my car now, seeing as you did yours. I think for the GT's, the norm is about 265-275hp, and about 280-285+ ft lbs bone stock.

To me, a big V6 or small V8 that's able to rev, is a great engine choice. They make Torque from about 2000rpm until about 5000, and the HP is usually up around 4000-4500ish. I know that my car's sweet spots are 2500 and 4500...get the torque surge down low, and the hp surge at 4500, in the first 4 gears (at like 3000rpm in 5th I'm doing over 160km's/hr).
