Rabbit nameplate to replace Golf moniker in North America

Auburn Hills, Michigan - In a surprise move, Volkswagen announced that its new fifth generation Golf is going back to its roots with the original Rabbit nameplate for the Canadian and U.S. markets.

"The Rabbit was always exclusive to the U.S. and Canadian markets; while the rest of the world had the Golf, we had the iconic Rabbit," said Volkswagen's Director of Brand Innovation, Kerri Martin. "The reintroduction of the Rabbit represents Volkswagen's commitment to this market and is a nod to the passionate North American enthusiasts who have an emotional connection with the Rabbit name." "Volkswagen customers want a relationship with their cars. Names like The Thing, Beetle, Fox, and Rabbit support this," Martin added. ( ROFLMAO-SVT ZX3  )

The Rabbit goes on sale this Summer in both two and four-door versions.

VWoA must be smoking crack if they think bringing back the Rabbit nameplate is going to help them...

Lord that would be the same as Ford resurrecting the Maverick nameplate <_<

VW is scrambling to keep sales.

It's the tell true sign that the big-wigs are getting restless.

I've seen it a million times, when things start going sour, re position a once succesfull brand.

VW's sales might be lacking but, I have to say my Passat TDI Wagon has been 100% flawless. it now has just under 40k on it and it runs and drives just like the day we got it. Not a rattle or squeek , never been back to the dealer for anything. Go figure.

Nah, they'll just rename it the Aspire :P

I can just see the ads now:

"Try the all new Ford Aspire and ask yourself do you aspire to drive a Ford?" :D

Nahh........... if Ford brings the Aspire back, it would more then likely be attached to the Ka, or Fiesta as the Aspire was an MK4 Escort.

as for the Taurus / Sable names the Fusion and Milan have that one covered.
I was the only member on this board with a Yellow Focus Sedan, and a 2002+ Euro Facelift on a sedan.
