(This post was last modified: 03-18-2006, 04:58 AM by Oscar The Grouch.)
Now that i've got my new Alpine deck installed, i'm thinking about doing the low end next.
Right now i have a 10" Pioneer IMPP sub (bout 7 years old) with an Alpine Mono-amp pushing 300W (not sure how much RMS).
The sub is mounted in a truck wedge box I bought from Futurescrap.
She thumps a little bit, but I'd like to give it a little more thump.
I was thinking bout finishing the Alpine setup and just buying a Type S 10" and replacing the Pioneer.
What do you guys think? Should I leave the system as is? Should I buy a new amp too if I get a Type S Sub? Would it be better if I get a new box to mount the sub in?
Right now, the speakerbox sits up with the amp on the back side.
Edit: how big should i go? 10" or 12". Looking to spend not really over 1000.00 if possible.

Go to a Pioneer Premier monoblock and leave the sub. It's a great sub. You've heard it in our car with a few more watts thrown at it.
Plus, you can't beat the toolless mounting
We'll talk about it tonight when you come over if you want.

Get a new alpine sub. Maybe an amp too depending on the specs of the amp you already have. Nothing worse than buying a new sub and not having enough amp to power it.

I figure since its a MRP-200... 200w rms sounds about right.
I'd go with a 12" type R with the MRD-M6XX on it... or better yet. get a Resonant engineering SE with that amp. If you shop around it'll be well under 1000...

I'd just switch the box, and keep your exsisting sub and amp. If you want some more slamage, then put it in a ported box... either .75 cu ft, or a bit bigger...
Or you COULD spend a retarded amount of cash and go bigger....

Personally I've been really happy with my MB Quart 10's. Really clean, accurate sound.

I have to disagree, My 1 12W7, is the best sub Ive ever had and Ive had a lot. I even like the W3V3's that were just released. JL are great, no regrets.

I dunno, I love JL... If W7's were a couple hundred cheaper,i'd definatley buy a pair.
But at the retarded prices they're sold at makes me feel like they're overrated. i would never pay 800-1000 for a 13w7. much less 800-1000 for a 1000/1. Great equipment. prices are ridiculous.

the truck wedge is crap. I say ditch that wedge and build yourself a ported box to spec of what that sub wants ported. She will pound harder for sure.
