Cool Tool
#1
One member on another board just picked this up.

Master Craft tourque adaptor

"Now I'm rarely impressed with crappy tire tools, but I must say this thing is damn cool! I just picked one up and I love it! I have 3 other torque wrenches, but this thing is damn cool!

Here are the specs:
•Torque adaptor converts a standard 3/8" or 1/2" ratchet into a digital torque wrench
•Four torque measure settings (ft-lb, in-lb, N-M, cm-kg)
•Features three-colour LED light indicator and progressive audio notification when reaching the specified torque
•Features memory functions
•Torque range from 20 to 99 ft-lb"

I'm gonna give this thing a try since it's on a pretty good sale at the moment.
Just thought maybe some of you guys are gonna be interested as well.

Ya I saw this... I dunno how accurate it can possibly be though. Or better yet, how accurate it will be down the road... can it even be calibrated?

Well this is what the buddy said:

"about +(-) 1.~~% at 90lb and 20lb (min and max) +(-)0.17% at 59lbs ft according to the calibration card..

edit: correction
+(-) 1% at 99lbs ft
+(-) 0.7% at 20lb ft
+(-) 0.17% at 50lbs ft

from the factory its more accurate than my cheapy princess auto and both my canadian tire maximum wrenches"

Im not willing to spend that much on it, for only a few uses...

Its too big to get in to small areas

problem is that it only goes to 99 ft-lbs. I'll take my 1/2" drive Pro series torque wrench that goes to 250 ft-lbs.

Anybody knows where some of us can buy a normal torque wrench for around $50-60?

I dunno, for $40 I just might grab this myself, as long as it can act as a double check against the tire shop's tightening of the nuts on my wheels.

Hrm, the Fusion is listed as 100 ft/lbs, but as long as I can verify it got to at least 99 ft/lbs I should be good yes?

If you watch, about once a month CTC has the 1/2" one (lb-ft) on sale for between $60 and $70. That's when I bought mine.

Watch out that one, its a really good one. I had mine torque wrench break on me, took it down to CT where they just replaced with the newer model since mine was about 6 or 7 years old. It it worth the money to buy a quality precision tool.

Torque wrenches & Air Gauges are the most fragile tools ever. A single drop of 5" off the ground and its out of calibration. So even the digi ones can go out of calibrations too, though they are harder to recalibrate from what I hear, but they are a good tool to beable to see the amount you are flexing at.
I still prefer the manual click though.

Just a heads up, take note of the fact that the price of $39.99 is listed as "from" means you may not be able to get it at that price.

My local CT wants $44.99 for the same damn thing, I walked right back out <_<

The 39.99 price is for a 3/8" drive and the 44.99 is for the 1/2" drive.

Ken,

You forget that I am, to be blunt, an idiot when it comes to things mechanical :(

Hell, I don't even know which drive size I need (I have a small ratchet set and a larger "Power Wrench" with a telescoping handle (that has a socket that does work for my tires lug nuts)

Ask me a legal question and I either know the answer or know where to get it. Ask me whether I need a 1/2" or 3/8" inch drive and I'm apparently quite screwed :( (or should that be "torqued"? <_< )

from my experience, shops tend to tighten things a tad over the spec -- ie, likely a lot more than what the digital meter will ever read.

Ah... well I think they may done so 'cause I've been getting a weird drone / hum for the last few weeks that coincides with the summer wheels going back on (starts being noticeable at around 40 km/h and only stops when the car stops moving, start moving again and back to the noise <_<)
