As most of you know, we have a bbcode tag, [youtube ] that allows you to embed youtube video into a post.

The thing is, not too many people use this code... so the question is... would it be preferable to just search for a youtube url in a post and replace it with the embedded video?

that way you'd just type

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W61YjYW5zhY&NR=1

into the post to get

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W61YjYW5zhY&NR=1

or would you prefer having to use the bbcode?

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W61YjYW5zhY&NR=1[/youtube]

or

[youtube]W61YjYW5zhY[/youtube]

to get the video.


what are your thoughts?

I currently have all three ways of embedding youtube enabled... if you don't wish to have automatic embedding of youtube and would rather force the use of the youtube bbcode, let me know.

Is there any advantage techincally in any of the three ways? I personally like the [youtube] method only because I know damn well what I'm putting into the message this way.

But I'm a crotchty old fart when it comes to doing it right so...

there's no advantage technically... it was brutally hard to figure out how to translate straight youtube links into embedded vids, so my feelings might be hurt if you guys didn't want that, but in the end, I'll be OK..
