I'm going down Thursday to pick up the Plasti Dip and about $1500 worth of other stuff, and while I'm down there I'm signing up for one of those Tops BonusPlus cards - gonna get me some of those 2 for 1 beers.

What I paid for beer was 19.99 at Tops(get the card and buy groceries that are on sale) plus 1.50 deposit and about $2 in tax at the store. I pay about $12 per 30 pack case at the border. Whether it's a 28 pack of bottles, a 24 or a 30 pack, I find the border charges me the same tax rate. But, I should have bought the beer at Walmart as they had it for $18.99(coors and blue products). Now just remember to not open them until you get them nice and cold at home.

Well s**t if Walmart sells it for that for sure Sam's Club does or even less (just in case anyone doesn't know the Sam in Sam's Club is Sam Walton, as in Walmart; it's their Costco) - maybe I've got it all wrong - anywhoo, I'll get it all figured out Thursday.

I'm remodelling the shower in my ensuite bathroom, ordered a Moen Vertical Spa. The setup takes a control valve that would have cost $250 at Home Depot and $600 for the trim kit (shower head, body jets and valve trim); for a total of $850 plus tax.

I ended up getting it from Amazon.com instead:
http://www.amazon.com/Moen-273-Vestige-M...B001CJZVLQ

... for $260 for the trim kit, and $125 for the valve, shipped for free to my friend's address and she didn't get charged tax for importing it ... so $385 vs. $966 for a savings of $581 (60% off)

The kick in the teeth? It's made in Canada! Dodgy

Great as a matter of fact. I bought 30 cans of Canadian at Tops for 19.99 and got some Bonus points I can use towards future gas purchases.

Now having said that I went to Tops first and Sam's Club later - Sam's price is now 19.46 per 30 cans LOL - so technically lower. Either way it's a win because as you pointed out, even with the extra you pay at the border it's still a lot lower than here.

Actually now that I think of it - that beer was actually free if you consider the 50 bucks I saved on tile and adhesive.

The beer Ken bought is imported from Canada and is the same beer you buy and enjoy here in Canada(although Ken, Canadian is a terrible beer)

American beer always taste weaker. When I drink a guinness here at my local watering hole( beer market in windsor if your ever down here its a must for awesome food) it taste way differnt when I go to the states and get one. There seems to be more flavour over here :\ i dont know its all in my head probably.

I guess I need to tell you that those bonus points expire quickly(I think 2-4 weeks) I always go to the reservation(Smokin Joes) for gas. It is 20 cents a gallon cheaper/ 30 cents if you pay cash. I typically pay about $160-170 if the truck is on fumes, but down there it cost me $120 for the full fill.

Well I am down there every two weeks sometimes once a week so hopefully expiry won't be a problem.

In addition to making sure I'm on fumes I also take down four 5 gallon gas cans so yeah, saving on gas is a big part of the value of going down. Even at 4.09 a gallon for 93 that's still just 1.05 per litre compared to 1.40 here for 92.

I sometimes drive by Smokin Joes on my way between Sams Club and Lewiston but frankly was concerned about the idea of buying no-name gas - obviously you've never experienced any problems with it.

I have noticed the big truck delivering the fuel. It says Shell. Oh, and when you pay cash, you get the free upgrade from 89 to 91.
