That new car brake feel.....
#1
Question
I've got a 2002 SVT Focus... recently replaced my brakes and by brakes I mean the following:

-2 x rear calipers
-2 x rear rotors
-2 x rear pads
-2 x front rotors
-2 x front pads

Buddy works at ford as a tech and he bled the brakes for me all 4 corners.

I drive and, you just don't get that "new car" brake feeling... the super responsive brake pedal. Is there ANY way to get that back? New brake booster? I've even got the steel braided brake lines and using DOT4 in the car.

Thoughts??

Flush the lines and replace with fresh fluid and consider replacing the soft lines.

I've replaced the soft lines with Steel Braided lines..... and bled the system out and put new fluid in. Is that what you mean or what??

Pretty much - I didn't mean steel braided lines necessarily (even new rubber lines are better than "old" rubber lines) - but yeah, refreshing the fluid and the lines is what I meant.

The only other thing I can think of is the possibility there is still air in the system or the master cylinder is starting to go.

What did you replace everything with brand wise? That will also have an impact on how good they feel stopping wise. I would change fluid out and in the process that should rid any small bubbles in the line that may be making things soft

Also, can you lock em still?

I will definitely try that... though.... they wouldn't lock considering ABS.
One thing that just came to mind was my leaking clutch master cylinder. That would probably kill a bit of pressure??

Not really, they share the same reservoir but that's it. It should have no bearing on the brakes as they split at the bottle

Even with abs you can lock em, just take it to a parking lot, get on gas up to 50 and foot to floor
