Getting into a ready to run version of these trucks that this competition uses are around $300-$400. Mins you they average around $800-$1500 done up, but they don't need those mods... it becomes the addiction known as rc lol

you can get into this hobby for around the 400mark yes with an rtr kit toss batteries on it and enjoy. 800-1500 is low lol
i mean a 2500 rig WILL perform better then a 400 rig but its NOT needed problem is once you get it if you enjoy it you go hard and mod heavily next thing you know your around the 2400 range on 1 rig.

a stock RTR in my opinion needs 150-200 in upgrades and your guna have alot of fun with minor breakage ( unless you get throttle happy)

its a blast to do and its unintentional exercise

I'm just getting back into land-based R/C. I have an e-maxx on order, gonna slap some larger tires on it, an SVT Raptor body, and 6S LiPo to start..

Yeah, turns out 6S LiPo is an aweful lot of power for this truck. I tightened up the slipper, put on the proline trenchers and upped the spring pre-load. After more than a few roof slides, I dialed the throttle down to 60% at which point, I had a lot of fun... though, I may need to dial down the initial punch and throttle curve a bit so it's not so overwhelming.

That being said, I've found a lot of things you see/read on the net from 'professionals' doesn't hold up well in practice.
- the stock suspension seems to provide better handling than any modification that makes it harder/more damped
- The slipper clutch is pretty robust -- just make sure it's snugged up enough
- if you're running 6s, you should really tune down the speed control

I've even figured out how to do bunny hops with the truck -- blip throttle for wheelie, blip brake to lift rear off the ground.

what's better to get nitro or electric?
basically I guess, what's more cost efficient, and easier to maintain?

I'd say go electric. They have ridiculous power and decent run times now -- my E-Maxx brushless smokes the t-maxx 3.3 off the line, and has plenty of power to strip gears apparently.

that being said, you may want to look at something like the HPI Savage flux. The parts are a bit more robust on that truck compared to the E-Maxx, but you can't beat the aftermarket parts you can find for the e-maxx

Electric all the way. And I crawled with pegasix today, didn't realize it was him until I saw the photos on here again lol, but I should have questioned who owned the svt wagon parked by the trail we were at.

The initial cost of purchasing the rig is it. If u don't totally beat the hell out of it u can run a stock rig for a very long time with no issues. BUT just like anything with wheels it's always more fun to modify and upgrade it.
