Slllooooowwwww Wipers
#1
Coming home from work today in the rain on the 416 at 110 km/h, wipers decided to move slowly... Then eventually stopped. After awhile, they started working again, slowly, but at least working. Didn't matter what switch setting it was on. Any ideas? Anybody seen this before?

I already e-mailed my parts-guy friend to see if he can check if my car had the recall done from 2000.

I'm thinking it's motor, but hoping for relay... :)

Id try the relay first and cross your fingers. If its the motor its about $150.

Use Rain-x and you won't need wipers.

Windshield needs to be Rain-X'd, but that won't fix my wipers. :P

sounds like the relay if thay started working again, or a loose wire. if they stopped competely then I'd say it was the motor.

Is it possible though to have the motor die and the relay be okay?

I'm thinking if the motor was overheating, went into shutdown because of the overheat, cooled down and then restarted...

That's what I'm thinking. I'd leave the switch in the on position, and they would miraculously start to move again after a few minutes, until they got to the park position, or would keep going for a few excruciatingly slow wipes, then die again.

Take the wiper mechanism off the car , take it apart , clean and grease the pivots ( shaft where the wiper arms are bolted to ) .

I did it on my 00 ZX3 , I did it on another Focus ( ZX4 ) and now I have to do it on my 03 ZX3.

There is nothing wrong with the motor , the shafts are seizing into the holders , if you don't do it now it will cost you a Wiper Motor and you'll still have the same problem.

So just rip the cowling off and go at it with a tube of lube? :D

Sounds a little perverse, but I can handle that.

Yep, that's where mine were seized too! I did them last night, took about 2.5 hours total. Hardest part was hammering out the spindles at 10 pm in my garage trying not to wake up the neighbours! :D

They work like a charm now! Thanks Martin!

I'd agree
