Water Temp Gauge

Where should the needle be on the water temperature gauge when the cars warm?? I drove for 40 mins today to work and the needel stayed below the quatrer mark.....it should be operatiing somewhere in the middle correct??

Mid to low is where mine is but I'm running a duratec engine with a Zetec rad with 2 line capped lol Nice and cool

It should be in the middle - that's the way Ford calibrates them ... and John, the rad size shouldn't make any difference if the thermostat is working correctly.

Not necessarily ... do you get good hot air to warm the car up ... if yes, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If, on the other hand, you don't get hot air or if your fuel economy really sucks or you experience some driveability problems - might be something to look at.

It's strange but it runs colder and the hot air is hotter than before. But it does hold more then before too. No idea how it works but its all good. I'll do a check on Friday when i change my belt.

My dad's focus had the needle exactly how you describing it. It would be good in the summer, but when it gets colder it would never warm up. Also the air from the vents was warm or more on a cooler side. We suspected the thermostat and replaced it while flushing the coolant system. That fixed the problem. Now the car is nice and toasty when warmed up :))
