Yes.

Leaking water pump or failing water pump can cause the symptoms you have mentioned above.

If you are doing the water pump do the timing belt at the same time. Saves you on labour if you haven't done it already.

the water pump is on the right side of the egine attached to the block right?(oposite side of the coolant overflow jug)

just pump: $139.40
timming belt: $49.02
hours: 3.1+
labour: $84.50/hr

So the total would be in the ball park of:

$450.37

that is a pretty hard hit for the pump @ a dealer......I would look at a private garage with lower labour rates (personnaly) I hope this helps you out.

Yup thats all parts and labour in for the pump and the timming belt. I think thats a little high of a price when my mechanic charges $55/hr

ya i gotta check my coolent levels too, it goes low every 6 months.. and i know its not burning, it could be the thermosttat too. oh well ford extendedwarranty coverage is pro.

Probably the thermostat housing, went on both my focuses. but the headgasket was also on the way out on my red zx3

$450ish from the dealership is cheap. Also they will have mechanics there that are specialized on certain models, and will have the right expertise and tools to make the job go as smooth as possible. Quite often with independant garages, they might not know what they are doing 100% until they really get into the job. When it comes to newer vehicles, I like to deal with folks who are factory trained to work on them. Older vehicles, give Bob's Garage the work...

Dealership mechanics are some of the most half-assed mechanics i've ever dealt with. Some are amazing, while others are lazy. it was hard to believe some of the damage done to my cars by ford.

the timing belt isnt that tough on the focus. if you have the help or guidance i'd do it yourself.
