Thinking Of Downsizing
#1
Getting tired of the box I have in the back of my car...it takes up a fair amount of room, and I am thinking of going with something with a smaller footprint...

Considering buying a 8" Bazooka Nos tube, or something similar...or even a single 10" that I could put into a ported box, and drive with my exsisting amp...

I don't car about SPL anymore...I know that there are tons of people out there that can kick my butt in that sense.

Any suggestions?

Just get the smallest sealed box for your setup now... that's all I did. If you 'downsize' to that extreme, you will be disappointed later on.

My ported box was taking up nearly double the space i'm taking up with my current box.

I'm running a "truck wedge", single Pioneer 10" sub, sealed box.

It actually slots right under the rear deck brace in the trunk, no mounting required!

Obviously that wouldn't work for the hatch, but still. I get plenty of bass while preserving 90% of my trunk space.

I have a small box for my 12", tons of space left in the trunk, it pounds just enough, and is easy to remove whenever I need to.

Much nicer sound that the "bazookas". mind you, the last time I heard a "bazooka" was about 10 years ago, I'm sure their nicer sounding now. (I hope)

Flo... do you think a fiberglass box could be done in our hatch in a day?? Say heat of about 20 - 25 degrees??? One 10" for each side ?? possibly??

Hmmm, might go with the glass idea and have a custom cabinet moulded into the side...only thing is, not sure where I'd want to locate my amp and cap.

I have heard many sound systems with Bazookas, and when setup properly, they sound really good. One of the best systems I ever heard in a car had 4x 8" Tubes in the trunk of a Fiat Spider, with oldschool bostons for mids and tweets. It was really loud and punchy too, even with the top dropped.

Anyways, great ideas folks, thx

I'm saving up for at least one of these:

if there's 3" of space under my seats, that's where it'll go.. only .6 cu ft for the 10", .9 cu for the 12 (it has a 4" mounting depth). 1000W max handling capacity ain't all that bad for the 10.

Those premier subs are pretty sweet, Personally i'd go with the Eclipse ones that were out a couple years ago. I've heard quite a few good things about those.
