I am invited to go to one of their other dealers, two in deepest darkest Scarbourough and another some place north of Steeles.

Ouch that sucks when your dealer closes down. But a word of caution. That dealer they're referring you to "north of Steeles" is "Yonge-Steeles Ford-Lincon" who used to be Northtown Ford-Lincon.
Northtown Ford-Lincon went "out of business" last year, but according to what I heard at the dealer where I bought my Focus last year, the service manager said that Northtown was deliberately closed down in order to aviod paying severence to lng term employees there (Northtown Ford-Lincon had been around since 1956)
Personally I would never do business with a company that willingly screws its employees to avoid obligations to them.
